Chapter 157:
“Are you up, Amelia p>
With news swirling online, Carlee hurried to knock at Amelia’s bedroom door, but the silence inside unsettled her. Worried, she called out even louder.
Her hand was just about to force the lock when the door opened, revealing Amelia’s pale face. “Don’t worry about what you’re seeing online. None of that matters,” Carlee said, trying to comfort her.
She thought Amelia was upset because of the news online, but the sight of a packed suitcase in Amelia’s grip caught her off guard, making her realize something was off.
Amelia didn’t bother responding. She picked up the suitcase and quietly started down the stairs.
The moment Kurt saw her heading for the exit, he reached for his phone and tried Wyatt’s number, only to get no answer. His nerves stretched thin until the sound of a car screeching to a halt rang out from outside.
On the driveway, Wyatt caught sight of Amelia, suitcase in tow, determination written on her face. Believing the news had driven her away, he reached out instinctively, but she recoiled and snapped, “Don’t touch me! Stay away p>
𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗻
Shock swept through everyone standing by. Wyatt let the silence stretch between them before finally saying, “Amelia, let me handle the media. You don’t have to p>
“That won’t be necessary, Mr. Stewart. I already know what needs to be done.” Before he could finish, Amelia’s voice cut through his words, sharp and distant. A deep crease appeared between Wyatt’s brows as he heard her address him like that.
Without another word, Amelia pulled out a document and handed it to him. “Here’s the divorce agreement. Sign it, and everything will be resolved p>
“You’re asking for a divorce?” said Wyatt, his composure vanishing as his features darkened and his eyes burned with frustration.
Amelia’s fingers trembled, but she remembered the recording on her phone and suddenly chuckled. “Isn’t this the easiest solution? Unless, of course, you’re afraid”
“…that a divorce means losing access to the Flynn Group’s core tech.” The last part of her statement seemed to pierce through Wyatt’s fog of disbelief, and his expression shifted.
The look on his face confirmed it all, and tears started to fill Amelia’s eyes, though a tiny spark of hope remained. “Is there anything you want to say to me?” For a brief moment, she remembered every small kindness he’d shown her and bit her lip.
Silence pressed in between them until Wyatt finally muttered, “No p>
As soon as he spoke, Amelia’s tears spilled over.
Realization dawned on Carlee, who now understood the reason behind Amelia’s actions. Wasting no time, she grabbed the suitcase and pulled Amelia toward the exit. “Come on, Amelia, let’s go p>
No one stopped them as they left Hillside Villa—not even Wyatt.
Standing nearby, Kurt broke the heavy silence. “Mr. Stewart, you p>
“Track down who leaked the story about Amelia’s infertility—right now!” At that moment, Wyatt’s eyes were filled with a menacing aura, devoid of any warmth. Regret twisted inside Kurt, but in a heartbeat, his expression hardened. Only someone inside Hillside Villa could have spilled that secret. Deep down, he blamed himself for not being stricter with the staff here.
Once she had left Hillside Villa behind, Amelia made her way back to her apartment. Carlee, noticing how upset she was, chose not to bother her. Instead, she quietly left and dialed Monroe’s number.
Three days slipped by with Amelia refusing to leave her apartment. In those days, Wyatt had never visited her, and the noise online about her had slowly faded away.
Suddenly, an argument erupted in the hallway, Carlee’s raised voice breaking the silence. Stepping out to investigate, Amelia found Doug waiting at the door. There was no need for introductions. Amelia went straight to the point, asking, “Is Conroy asking for me p>
Doug answered with a simple nod. She almost told him about her divorce plans, but with the scandal still fresh, Amelia thought better of it and agreed to meet Conroy. After all, the Stewart Group was affected by the scandal because of her.
“You’re not taking Mrs. Stewart anywhere!” Barrie’s voice rang out as he materialized by the door.
Determined not to repeat old mistakes, Barrie planted himself firmly between Doug and Amelia. Doug’s gaze hardened as he glanced Amelia’s way, wordlessly urging her to respond.
Barrie jumped in before she could, saying, “Mr. Stewart is already on his way here. You’ll wait for him before doing anything p>
That only soured Doug’s mood further, while Amelia’s hands tightened into fists. Without hesitation, Carlee stepped forward and shielded Amelia, eyes narrowed in defiance. “Where are you trying to take her? What’s your intention here p>
A lifetime of loyalty to Conroy had earned Doug plenty of respect in Kretol. But now, faced with Barrie’s blockade and Carlee’s pointed questions, annoyance flickered in his eyes.
Wanting to protect Carlee from trouble, Amelia quickly pulled her aside. “She acts before thinking sometimes. I’m sorry about that, Doug. Please don’t hold it against her p>
“There’s really no need to apologize,” Doug replied.
Barrie refused to budge from his spot, and Doug’s bodyguards didn’t dare come any closer, creating a tense standoff in the hallway.
Before things could escalate any further, the sound of a car cut through the tension. Wyatt stepped into view, the tension around him cold and unmistakable.
