Chapter 138:
“Hey, Amelia, could I steal a bit of your time for a quick chat p>
Ricky’s voice came through the phone, gentle in a way that threw Amelia off guard. Suspicion flickered in her eyes as she replied, “What do you want from me p>
“Your birthday is almost here. How about letting us celebrate it for you? Maybe throw a little party p>
“No thanks. That won’t be necessary.” Before he could finish, Amelia flatly refused.
When Katrina had still been alive, the Flynn family would hold a birthday party for Amelia every single year. After Katrina’s death, however, they never said a word about her birthday again. Meanwhile, Dayna always had elaborate parties, surrounded by well-wishers and gifts. For Ricky to mention throwing her a birthday party now? It felt as bizarre as seeing snow in midsummer.
Ricky kept pressing, but Amelia’s patience was thinning. She finally said, “I’m not interested in any celebration. If you truly care, you can transfer the party budget straight to my account. That would be the best birthday gift p>
Ricky fell silent at that. He hadn’t planned to just hand her the money; he only wanted to use the party to build a connection with Wyatt. If all he did was send money, he’d lose that chance.
As the silence stretched, Amelia’s tone turned sharper. “If you’re unwilling to do that, then just drop the subject. Don’t mention it again p>

Her thumb hovered over the screen, ready to end the call, when Ricky blurted out, “Hold on p>
Worried she’d disconnect, he hurried on. “Amelia, business is bad at the company, and the company is your mother’s legacy. Since the Stewart Group is so powerful now, maybe you could talk to Mr. Stewart for us. You p>
“Absolutely not!” Amelia couldn’t keep her anger in check anymore. “Mr. Flynn, let me warn you: using the Stewart Group’s name for tricks could land you in jail p>
That had indeed been Ricky’s plan—using Wyatt’s name to pull in new business partners. But Amelia’s warning snuffed out any hope he had left. The thought of the Stewart Group’s legal department going after him sent a chill down his spine.
Embarrassed and desperate, he blurted out, “Amelia, after all this time with Wyatt, haven’t you gotten anything useful? You p>
“You’re getting it all wrong! My relationship with Wyatt isn’t what you think!” She didn’t want to waste time talking to Ricky, but she couldn’t stop herself from explaining. The moment she finished, laughter rang out from the other end of the line, harsh and mocking. Then the call ended.
Wyatt hadn’t said a word during the conversation. Once the line went dead, he turned to her and asked, “Was that your father p>
“Yeah. He’s hoping to use me as a bridge to you for his own benefit,” Amelia said.
Right then, she felt nothing but relief that Ricky had no idea about her marriage to Wyatt. Knowing him, he would have started to pester them right away if he had found out.
Wyatt let out a genuine laugh after hearing her blunt words. He glanced at her with amusement and said, “It’s my understanding that your mother left you sixty percent of the Flynn Group’s shares. Considering that, I think offering the Flynn Group a little support shouldn’t be an issue p>
Amelia wasted no time shooting down the idea. “No, don’t do that p>
Wyatt’s face showed confusion, prompting her to explain. She could never watch the Flynn Group collapse—the company was something Katrina had left her. Even so, she wouldn’t help it until the day she gained full control. The Flynn Group was firmly in Ricky’s hands now, and she wouldn’t do anything that would benefit the Flynn family.
Just then, Amelia’s phone buzzed with a message. Expecting a harsh text from Ricky, she prepared to swipe it away, only to stop short once she read the screen.
A transaction alert had popped up. Della had wired her ten million, leaving a message that said, “Congratulations on your marriage p>
Frozen in place, Amelia just stared at her phone. Wyatt noticed and asked, his tone tinged with concern, “Did something happen p>
Amelia quickly showed him the notification. “I can’t take this money,” she said, shaking her head.
Last time, accepting the brooch had already made her uneasy because of its price. But the meaning behind it made her keep it. This time, the amount stunned her. She believed she shouldn’t accept it.
Wyatt gave her an encouraging smile. “Think of it as her way of welcoming you to the family. My mother is just giving you her blessing p>
With his reassurance, Amelia finally gave in, though she resolved to buy a gift for Della in return soon.
Wyatt pulled out his phone and sent a quick message to Davin. Della’s generosity brought something important to his mind.
Roughly thirty minutes passed before their car rolled up in front of Hillside Villa’s entrance. Stepping inside, Amelia and Wyatt spotted Davin and Lucian waiting on the sofa. Their arrival had both men rising to their feet in greeting.
Assuming business was the reason for their visit, Amelia started toward the stairs, but Wyatt gently stopped her and guided her back to the sofa. “Have you taken care of everything?” he asked Davin and Lucian.
