Chapter 126:
Deep down, Santos wished he could snap at Jaxton right then and there, but he masked his fury behind a polished smile. To the press, he announced plans to arrange the wedding as soon as possible.
After getting the information they needed, the reporters filed out of the room. Locking the door, Laura spun on Santos, fury lighting up her face as she yelled, “Have you completely lost your senses? You’re letting Jaxton marry that woman, that illegitimate daughter of Ricky p>
“Given the state of the Morrison Group, do you honestly think we can afford to say no? You might want to remember that your son is the father of her unborn baby. Or are you content to let your grandchild carry the label of a bastard?” Santos said.
Disappointment had taken the wind out of Santos’s anger. He turned away, barely bothering to look at Jaxton, and barked at Laura, “We’re going to the Flynn house tonight p>
“What for?” Laura asked.
“To discuss Jaxton and Dayna’s wedding with the Flynn family p>
He saw no other way to control the headlines or salvage the family’s standing. A swift marriage was the only move left to make.
No one bothered to ask Jaxton how he felt about any of it.
Dayna heard Santos’s promise to the reporters and couldn’t help feeling secretly pleased.

Just then, her phone rang. Seeing Laura’s name on the screen, Dayna understood the call’s purpose. She hesitated, wishing she could ignore it, but eventually answered.
“Dayna, did you tip off the reporters about your pregnancy?” Laura asked.
Feigning confusion, Dayna replied, “Reporters? I don’t know what you’re talking about p>
At first, Laura was thrown by Dayna’s innocent tone. That confusion didn’t last, as suspicion quickly crept back in. “You mentioned your pregnancy to Jaxton, and now suddenly the press is all over us. Don’t let me find out this was your doing. If you had anything to do with this, I will make sure you pay for it p>
“Laura, I care deeply about Jaxton. Why would I do anything that could hurt him?” Dayna said.
Laura’s doubts faded after hearing that, chalking the chaos up to a stroke of bad luck. Still, she couldn’t help snapping, “Now that the news of your hospital visit is out, Jaxton is being pushed into marrying you. Happy now?” With that, she ended the call.
Dayna’s eyes darkened with resentment, but it lingered only a second before she allowed herself a sly smile. After all, she was one step closer to becoming part of the Morrison family, and that was all that really mattered.
