Three days later, at the Morrison family’s house.

Sleepless nights had plagued Laura and Jaxton ever since the news broke that Wyatt had come out of his coma. Anxiety gnawed at them both. Yet nothing seemed amiss with the Morrison Group in the days that followed, and they finally allowed themselves to relax.

Just as they began to think Wyatt had decided to let them off the hook, Santos walked into the living room with a grim expression. Since Jaxton’s removal as the CEO, he rarely stepped outside, hiding himself within the walls of their home.

As soon as Santos’s haunted look met his eyes, Jaxton started to rise from the sofa to leave, only to be met with a stinging slap from Santos that rang out like a gunshot in the room.

“Santos, what on earth is wrong with you?” Laura shouted, her fury flashing as Jaxton stumbled back onto the sofa from the force of the blow.

Despair broke through in Santos’s reply. “Do you have any idea what’s happening? The Morrison Group is about to go bankrupt, and it’s all because of him!” His eyes were rimmed red, the toll of the situation written plain across his face.

Shock instantly replaced the anger on Laura’s face. She reached out and grabbed Santos’s arm, her voice barely steady. “The company was finally getting back on its feet. How can we be facing bankruptcy now? Tell me you’re lying p>

“Don’t you know what Jaxton has done?” Santos replied wearily.

Even before this, the Morrison Group had been staggering under the weight of the Eastside Project fiasco. With every last favor called in and his own strength nearly spent, Santos had managed to keep the business afloat.

But everything changed three days ago when someone began snatching up the Morrison Group shares in a relentless buying spree. As if that weren’t enough, several new business partners—ones Santos had worked so hard to bring in—chose to break their contracts and walk away, paying the penalty just to cancel the deals.

Only one explanation seemed possible to Santos: the Stewart Group had finally decided to destroy the Morrison Group for good. There was no way Santos could plead with Wyatt, especially since Jaxton was the one who had brought every bit of this disaster upon them.

After Santos spoke, both Laura and Jaxton stared at him in disbelief. Panic overtook Jaxton’s eyes. He could not imagine what would happen to him if the Morrison Group collapsed for good. Without his identity as the heir to the Morrison Group, he would be nothing.

Just then, Laura gripped his hand tightly. “Jaxton, go find Dayna and bring her here right now p>

“Why do you want to see her at a time like this?” Jaxton asked.

“Dayna is the daughter of the Flynn family, and Amelia is now legally married to Wyatt. If the Flynn family is willing to step in to help us, maybe our company can still be saved p>

At first, Laura had considered turning to Amelia for help, but the history between them made her realize that Amelia would never help them. Thus, she placed her hopes on Dayna instead.
