Chapter 197:
Just then, Davin’s phone lit up with a call. After hanging up, he turned to Amelia and said, “Erik wants to see you p>
Amelia knew Davin wouldn’t bring up irrelevant people at a time like this, so she immediately asked about Erik’s identity. It soon became clear that Erik held shares in the Stewart Group, prompting Amelia to ask, “How is his relationship with Wyatt p>
“He has a good relationship with Mr. Stewart. Back when his grandfather was gravely ill, it was Mr. Stewart who personally brought Dr. Chapman to see him p>
Though they couldn’t save Erik’s grandfather in the end, Erik always remembered Wyatt’s kindness. That was enough for Amelia to trust him. She immediately had Erik summoned to the meeting room.
A few minutes later, Erik arrived. As soon as he took a seat, he got straight to the point. “How’s Wyatt doing now p>
Aside from Della, nobody else in the Stewart family had been informed of Wyatt’s current state. Amelia figured honesty was her best shot at earning Erik’s trust, so she laid out Wyatt’s situation plainly. Her words left Erik quiet for a moment.
After a while, he finally said, “I’ve already heard about what Jewell tried to pull today. If you ever need my help, just say the word. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll do it p>
The idea of facing the shareholders’ meeting alone made Amelia worried. Erik’s offer, and his history with Wyatt, nudged her to take a leap of faith. She confided in him about her struggles, asking if he could help her contact the other shareholders. To her relief, Erik agreed without hesitation.
“Have you thought about stepping up as the CEO of the company temporarily?” Erik asked.

“Me? Stepping up as the CEO?” The suggestion caught Amelia off guard. She pointed at herself, shocked.
Erik gave a nod, his expression serious. “Jewell isn’t fit to run the company. With Wyatt unconscious, the best shot at stability is for you to take over the company, at least for a while. You’re holding the most shares now, so you’ve got every right to step up p>
This was something Amelia had never thought about before. She’d always been fixated on keeping Jewell from claiming the CEO position, but Erik’s idea opened her eyes to a new path.
Back at home, Jewell walked inside to find Kamila already waiting for him. She moved to take his arm but accidentally pressed against the injury left by Della, causing him to yelp in pain.
Kamila’s mind was preoccupied with the outcome of the boardroom power struggle, and she didn’t notice Jewell’s injuries at first. Only when his cry broke through her haze did she spot the bruises and cuts along his shoulder and arm. Worry etched her face as she asked, “What happened? Who hurt you p>
“Della! That lunatic nearly tore me apart!” Jewell had held his tongue at the Stewart Group, but now, bitter resentment flickered in his gaze.
Kamila kept her temper in check and waited for him to vent before steering the conversation toward the matter of the acting CEO. Maybe she should have left the topic alone, because it sparked Jewell’s anger all over again. “Wyatt actually handed over sixteen percent of the Stewart Group shares to Amelia p>
Kamila didn’t register much after that sentence. Only one thought echoed in her mind—Wyatt had given sixteen percent of the company shares to Amelia. How was that fair? She had been together with Jewell for years, yet she held not a single share of the Stewart Group. Rory and Pattie together barely scraped five percent, a sum she had wheedled out of Jewell at their birth.
But Amelia? All because she married Wyatt, she was granted sixteen percent of the shares?
Jealousy flashed in Kamila’s eyes when she thought about that. She only snapped out of it when Jewell mentioned the upcoming shareholders’ meeting. She quickly masked her feelings, returning to her gentle manner. “Maybe you should touch base with some of the shareholders before the meeting?” she suggested in a soft voice.
“There’s no need for that. Most of the Stewart Group’s shares are in the family’s hands. They’ll support me for sure p>
Hearing Jewell’s confident words, Kamila agreed, but a small sense of unease still lingered in her heart. Part of her wanted to press him to reconsider, but before she could say anything, Jewell said, “Kamila, my wounds hurt so much. Would you comfort me for a while p>
Hearing Jewell’s whining, Kamila felt an urge to slap him but restrained herself.
The next three days slipped by in a blur. Amelia had met with every shareholder she could contact. However, the outcomes were dismal. Some shareholders agreed to see her, mostly because they respected Erik. Yet meeting her didn’t mean they would lend support—at best, they chose to stay neutral.
After all, Jewell wasn’t just a Stewart by name. He was Wyatt’s father. The shareholders leaned toward supporting him. Amelia could understand that.
Given the situation, she realized she needed a new tactic and had to use the method she had been thinking…
