Chapter 187:
“You need to leave for the hospital on the west side of Kretol right now. Don’t forget to bring Dr. Chapman p>
Carlee’s words snapped Davin into full alertness.
“Miss Larson, what’s going on? Did someone get hurt?” he asked.
“I can’t say for sure. Amelia told me to reach out to you, and that’s all I know p>
Once the call ended, Carlee peered out at the street, where the rain had turned into a curtain of water. “Please, can you go any faster?” she said to the driver. The rain was so heavy that the driver could hardly see the road, but thinking of the five thousand dollars, he pressed down on the accelerator.
Back at his place, Davin rushed out of the room, trying Wyatt’s number as he went. But the call indicated Wyatt’s phone was turned off.
Wyatt always kept his phone on, so Davin realized that something must have gone wrong. He hurried to leave, still wearing slippers.
At the Stewart Mansion.
Aside from Wyatt and Amelia, everyone who visited the Stewart Mansion tonight stayed the night.

Night had settled in, yet two figures remained in the courtyard pavilion.
“If the choice were mine, I’d send Rowell out of the country right away.” Jaycob’s words drifted through the rain, reaching Rory, whose eyes flashed with panic. Still, he tried to appear confused. “I don’t understand what you are talking about p>
Rory’s act of innocence didn’t fool Jaycob for a second. A faint smile lingered on his lips, but there was something mocking in his stare. “Do you really think Rowell had the skill to mess with Wyatt’s car by himself p>
Had Jaycob not drawn people’s attention elsewhere, tampering with Wyatt’s car would have been impossible for Rowell.
Barrie trusted the Stewart Mansion’s guests far too much. If he had been more cautious, Wyatt’s car would have been untouchable.
Memories from earlier flickered through Jaycob’s mind, prompting him to study Rory with complicated emotions swirling inside him. He used to believe Rory was innocent and kind, but now it seemed that was not the case.
When Rory heard Jaycob mention the car, his expression shifted in an instant. For hours he’d wondered why Rowell had met so little resistance. Now it was obvious Jaycob had lent a helping hand.
Rory realized the scheme against Wyatt had been uncovered. The carefree smile he wore vanished, replaced by a clouded expression. “Tell me what you’re after p>
“What makes you think I’m after anything at all p>
There was something calculating in Jaycob’s eyes as he answered.
Rory, catching the look, paused before replying. “Jaycob, you must want something to happen to Wyatt as much as I do. You shielded Rowell for a reason. If that’s the case, why don’t we work together p>
Jaycob offered no reply. His gaze lingered on the rain pelting down outside the pavilion. He said, “We can talk about teaming up when morning comes. For all I know, you might not even have the option by then p>
Lightning ripped across the sky, lighting up the pavilion, while thunder rolled in right behind it.
