Chapter 207:

The next morning, at Summit Capital headquarters.

Having been notified ahead of time, the receptionist offered a practiced smile. “My apologies, but Jerry isn’t in the office today. You can try again another time p>

At this perfunctory response, Rory’s usually sunny demeanor turned dark. So, he wouldn’t even get a chance to meet Jerry?

If Wyatt were the one visiting today, Rory doubted the Summit Capital staff would dare treat him this way. Jerry might be one of the founders, but that didn’t make him the only one who could help Rory.

Pulling out his phone in plain view of the receptionist, Rory made a call. Within minutes, an employee appeared and guided him toward the elevator. The receptionist blinked at the unexpected turn of events, then hastily sent a message to Jasiah.

At a restaurant downtown, the smell of fresh pastries lingered in the air. After a late night, Amelia was still groggy when Denny’s early invitation came through in the morning. She assumed it was about the project. Yet when she arrived, she realized he had invited her simply to share a meal.

Denny gestured toward the dishes on the table. “These are what this place is famous for. Try them,” he said with an easy smile.

Though she wasn’t hungry, Amelia reminded herself why she had come here. For the sake of the project, she started eating.

“Denny, I actually wanted to talk about the project p>

“Not today, Amelia. I asked you here just to give you a proper welcome,” Denny interjected.

The urge to walk away hit Amelia immediately, but the project meant too much to her, so she stayed.

Just then, the quiet of the private dining room was broken by the sudden trill of a ringtone. Spotting the caller ID, Amelia answered quickly.

It was Kretol City Hospital calling. Michelle had fainted. Amelia’s hands shook when she heard the news, and her face drained of color.

After hanging up, she struggled to keep her composure and said to Denny, “I’m so sorry, but an urgent matter requires me to return to Kretol immediately. Can we discuss the project tomorrow p>

“No need to worry about the project right now. I’ll arrange a private jet to take you back,” Denny replied. Before she could object, he added, “A private jet will get you there faster p>

Worry for Michelle outweighed hesitation, and Amelia accepted his help with a quick thank-you.

Exactly an hour later, the hum of Denny’s jet filled the rooftop of Kretol City Hospital. By the time Amelia reached the surgery wing, the red indicator above the operating room door still glowed, feeding her anxiety.

Michelle’s health had always been a concern, yet her recent treatment had shown promising results. The doctors had said her recovery was steady. So what could have caused this sudden collapse?

Lowering herself into a chair outside the operating room, Amelia drew in long, measured breaths, willing her heartbeat to slow.

By the time the clock inched past two in the afternoon, the red light above the surgery room finally went off, signaling the operation was over.

“We’re lucky her earlier treatments worked. Otherwise, Michelle wouldn’t have survived the ordeal this time,” Marc said, his words making Amelia’s heart tremble.

“But I thought she was getting better. How did she just collapse like that?” Amelia asked.

“Here, you need to see this,” Marc replied, passing his phone to her.

The screen displayed a surveillance video. The moment Amelia caught sight of Ricky walking out of Michelle’s hospital room, anger surged into her eyes.

Marc explained that Michelle had fainted because of a sudden wave of emotional strain, one so severe that it nearly cost her life.

Back in the hospital room, Amelia clung to Michelle’s hand and refused to move an inch from her bedside.

Dusk had already settled outside before Michelle’s eyelids finally fluttered open. With eyes red from crying, Amelia muttered, “Grandma p>

“Amelia? What are you doing here?” Michelle’s voice carried a haze of confusion as she tried to focus on her.

It was only when she noticed Amelia’s red eyes that she rushed to say, “Don’t be too worried. I’m fine. Ahem p>

The cough broke through her words, and Amelia was quick to pat her back, helping her breathe more easily.

When the coughs eased, Amelia handed a glass of water to Michelle. Michelle took a few slow sips of warm water, and color began to return to her cheeks.

“Grandma, why did Dad come here? And what could he have said to upset you like that?” Amelia asked.

“Ricky mentioned that you were—” Michelle stopped short, her face tightening as the memory of Ricky’s words pulled at her thoughts.

“Please, just tell me. What exactly did he say about me?” Amelia pressed.

“It’s nothing. Just some old matters,” Michelle muttered.

Amelia didn’t buy it. If it were truly nothing, Michelle wouldn’t have been this shaken.

What was her grandmother hiding from her? And what buried truths about the Flynn family had yet to surface?
