Chapter 359:

Shepard’s eyes simmered with frustration as he glanced at his wristwatch, the seconds ticking by.

He had had no inclination to escort Brielle to the evening’s business banquet, but she had gone to Weston about the matter. Shortly after, a call from Weston sealed his fate, directing him to bring Brielle along to the event.

Just as Shepard’s patience teetered on the edge, the door swung open.

Noticing Shepard’s irritated demeanor, Brielle shot back sharply, “What’s the rush? Even if we’re late, who would dare say a word about it p>

“No one would say anything to our faces,” Shepard replied coolly. “But they would murmur behind our backs about our lack of decorum p>

With that, Shepard strode downstairs without a backward glance.

A flicker of displeasure danced in Brielle’s eyes as she watched him go, yet the thought of her plan spurred her to follow.

Her true motive for attending the conference was the discovery that Wyatt would be among the guests. Without that lure, she would have dismissed the event as dreadfully tedious.

Once both Shepard and Brielle had seated themselves in the car, the driver eased the vehicle into motion, heading toward an opulent restaurant at the heart of Hans.

As they pulled up to the hotel’s grand entrance, Shepard fixed Brielle with a stern gaze. “Tonight’s guests are all influential figures. Cause any trouble, and you’ll answer for it p>

Brielle’s eyes blazed with indignation at his warning, but before she could fire back, the hotel doorman swung open the car door. Swallowing her retort, she reluctantly took Shepard’s arm and stepped out with him.

Upon entering the lobby, Shepard promptly disentangled himself from Brielle’s grasp. “No need for you to follow me. Just stay out of trouble,” he said. “I have pressing matters to attend to p>

With that, Shepard melted into the crowd, only to pause when he spotted Denny and Kelsey conversing in a quiet corner.

“I never imagined you would take the reins of the Williamson Group so swiftly, Denny,” Kelsey remarked. “Does our prior arrangement still hold p>

“No, it doesn’t,” Denny replied with calm finality.

Kelsey’s eyes flashed with irritation. “Don’t you have feelings for Amelia? Why abandon our plan so easily p>

“I do have feelings for her,” Denny admitted. “But her heart lies elsewhere. Kelsey, as your friend, I advise you to also let go p>

A glint of scorn crossed Kelsey’s face. “What’s this? You think I am Amelia’s rival in love and want to make me give up for her sake p>

“Do you truly believe you count as her rival in love?” Denny said smoothly. “From what I’ve seen, Wyatt has never paid you any attention p>

“You…” Kelsey’s voice faltered. Denny’s blunt words had hit her sore spot.

Since Wyatt’s recovery, Kelsey had sought him out repeatedly, wanting to see him, only to be refused every time. Even when she cloaked her visits in the guise of business, Wyatt delegated the matters to his staff, never showing up himself.

Denny’s words, paired with Wyatt’s cold indifference toward her, ignited a fury that reddened Kelsey’s eyes.
