Chapter 149:
Amelia brushed aside the offer with a wave. “No, thanks. I’m not sleepy.” Once those words left her lips, she hurried out of Wyatt’s office, not looking back.
While walking out, she missed the way Wyatt’s eyes dimmed as she left. After calming down, she went back to her office. Her phone began to buzz just as she eased into her chair.
For a second, she guessed it was a message from Wyatt. Curiosity had her glancing at her screen, but an unknown number stared back at her.
Despite the unfamiliar sender, the message opened with her name. “Hello, Miss Flynn, this is Kelsey Finch. Could we meet for a moment? I’m downstairs at the café in the Stewart Group building.” Those words made it clear—Kelsey had come specifically to see her, and Amelia had no choice but to agree.
After sending a quick “OK,” she grabbed her things and made her way downstairs.
Normally, that café would be bustling at this hour, but today, Kelsey had the place to herself. She had clearly booked the place.
“I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I decided not to order for you. What would you like to drink?” Kelsey said when she saw Amelia.
“I’d appreciate a glass of warm water. Thanks p>
Hearing Amelia’s answer, the server soon returned with a glass of warm water.
“I want to apologize for intruding on your lunch break,” Kelsey said as soon as the server walked away.
Had Kelsey carried herself with the same arrogant attitude as Elena, Amelia’s patience would have worn thin much sooner. Yet because she found Kelsey soft-spoken and unfailingly polite, she wore a gracious smile and said, “It’s alright, Miss Finch p>

“If my memory serves me right, you recently ended your engagement to Jaxton Morrison, right? You even have his name tattooed on your waist p>
These words from Kelsey erased every trace of a smile from Amelia’s face. Amelia kept her thoughts to herself and listened, saying nothing.
The night before, Kelsey had tossed and turned, unable to sleep, poring over every detail of Amelia’s life and replaying every video of her from the last couple of years.
When Amelia remained silent, Kelsey continued, “I hope you’ll forgive my honesty, but you and Wyatt are simply not a good match p>
Amelia had been biding her time, waiting for Kelsey to reveal the real reason for this visit, but Kelsey kept dancing around the point, which made Amelia impatient. “Miss Finch, can you just get to the point? What exactly are you trying to tell me p>
Kelsey lost her composure in the face of such bluntness. Once she gathered herself, she met Amelia’s gaze and admitted, “I have feelings for Wyatt. I intend to win his heart, even though you two are married. Today, I came here to warn you—and to apologize ahead of time for what I might do p>
Amelia didn’t see this coming. All along, she had assumed Kelsey would ask her to step aside for Wyatt, much like Elena had done. What she had never expected was that Kelsey only wanted to lay her cards on the table.
“If you really manage to make Wyatt fall for you, and he tells me himself that he wants a divorce, Ms. Finch, I’ll let him go. I won’t put up a fight,” Amelia said.
There were so many things Kelsey had wanted to say, but Amelia’s no-nonsense response left her at a loss for words. Instead of the argument or complaints she’d imagined, Amelia’s calm answer left her completely disarmed.
Once she stepped out of the café, Amelia didn’t head back to the Stewart Group. Instead, she sent Davin a quick message, letting him know she’d be taking the rest of the afternoon off.
Kelsey’s visit brought something back to Amelia’s mind—Jaxton’s name, still tattooed on her waist. She’d almost pushed the memory aside, but now it filled her with a sense of revulsion she couldn’t shake.
After sorting out her time off, she picked up the phone and dialed Carlee. Carlee was notorious for being a night owl, rarely awake before noon. But the moment she heard Amelia wanted to get her tattoo removed, she rolled right out of bed. “Give me ten minutes. I’m on my way p>
A little over thirty minutes later, Carlee led Amelia into a plush tattoo parlor, Barrie trailing along in silence. The receptionist, understanding Amelia’s request, promptly arranged for a tattoo removal artist.
A man with a glinting piercing arrived, his look shouting trouble. Carlee stepped up before Amelia could speak. “Is there a female artist here who can help us p>
With Amelia married to Wyatt, Carlee’s instincts had her guarding against any man laying a hand on her friend.
The man moved closer, letting out a scoff. “Why make things difficult? Do you want to do this or not? Acting like you’re above everyone—ouch p>
In an instant, Barrie clamped his hand around the man’s wrist. “If you don’t watch your mouth, you might just lose that hand.” His grip only tightened as he spoke.
Tattoo artists rely on steady hands for their livelihood. The man couldn’t afford to lose his.
A flicker of fear crossed his face. He smacked himself on the cheek with the other hand and blurted out, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that p>
At Barrie’s side, Amelia said gently, “You can let him go now p>
Seeing how things had unfolded, the receptionist managed a nervous smile. “Just a moment, please. I’ll get a female artist for you right away p>
