Chapter 17:
Meanwhile, Wyatt climbed the stairs with Amelia resting quietly in his arms. He set her down on the bed with care, not waking her. He reached for the blanket, but before he could pull it over her, the door burst open with a bang.
“Why did you call me over in such a panic? Did you get hurt? You p>
Marc, out of breath and still wearing his doctor’s coat, hurried in. The words froze on his tongue when he saw Amelia.
“She’s had too much to drink tonight. Could you check on her?” Wyatt said.
Marc felt both resigned and angry. “So let me get this straight—you called me here just to check on Amelia p>
Wyatt didn’t get the chance to explain.
“Do you know that I just finished a surgery? The moment I heard something might’ve happened to you, I hurried over. And now you’re telling me it’s only to check on someone drunk. You are so p>
“That research project of yours could use funding, right? I’ll wire one hundred million. If things go well, there might be more,” Wyatt said from the sofa, cutting into Marc’s rant before he could finish.
That promise of investment made Marc’s annoyance melt away, and his eyes lit up. Still, he paused as he glanced at Amelia lying on the bed. “Most of my equipment comes from overseas. With one stern look from Wyatt, Marc immediately bit back any further protest. Then he made his way to Amelia’s side. While he listened to her breathing, his eyes sparkled with interest. “Honestly, Miss Flynn looks just fine to me p>
After speaking, Marc packed his things and prepared to leave. Wyatt, still settled on the sofa, watched this with a hint of surprise. Suddenly, something clicked, and he found himself glancing at Amelia. Even with her eyes shut, she felt the weight of his gaze. Warmth spread across her face as she lay perfectly still.
Marc couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene, sharing a quick look with Wyatt before stepping out of the room.
Silence enveloped the room, and Amelia lay rigid on the bed. She had regained consciousness when Kurt spoke earlier, but she didn’t dare open her eyes. Her mind raced. She had been out drinking with Carlee. Why was she here with Wyatt now? How could he have caught her in such a drunken state?
Now she was at a loss as to how to face him. Would he change his mind about marrying her? Maybe seeing her like this would make him reconsider.
While she wrestled with her thoughts, a gentle laugh filled the room. “You’re not fooling anyone. I know you’re awake. Why not just open your eyes?” Wyatt said.
