Chapter 169:

At the airport.

Listening to the announcements, Jordy finally felt the weight lift off his shoulders. He’d spent two restless days trying to convince Elena to head back to Prevda, but she had brushed off every suggestion. Then, as if struck by a sudden change of heart, Elena had surprised him the night before. She had announced her intention to return, so he had wasted no time snatching up two tickets. Rather than risk another change of mind, he had chosen to accompany her on the journey himself.

Now, Elena’s eyes darted with panic. She had been so sure that the latest scandal would force the Stewarts to demand a split between Wyatt and Amelia. But instead of falling apart, their bond seemed stronger than ever. Wyatt’s press conference earned a flood of support online, which only made her jealousy burn hotter, mixed with anxiety.

The truth was, she was the one who had tipped Barnard off. She was terrified Wyatt might connect the dots and discover she was behind it.

Although Jordy saw Elena acting strangely, he chalked it up to her feelings for Wyatt and dismissed it. Only when security stopped them did he realize that something was amiss.

With mounting agitation, Elena glared at the people blocking her, putting on a show of indignation as she snapped, “Who do you think you are? Who said you could stop me? Get out of my way p>

Yet the bodyguards didn’t budge, no matter what she said.

Jordy was just about to speak up when a familiar voice called out from behind. Davin said, “Mr. Stewart would like a word with you p>

Catching sight of Davin, sweat dampening his collar, Jordy frowned and asked, “What are you doing here? Did Wyatt send you to fetch me p>

Shaking his head, Davin answered, “Mr. Green, I’m not here for you. Mr. Stewart asked me to find Ms. Green p>

At that, Jordy blurted out, “Why does Wyatt want to see Elena p>

“You might want to ask Ms. Green herself. She probably has the answer,” Davin replied.

Elena shot Davin a look, her voice sharp as she shouted, “Don’t believe a word from him! I haven’t done anything! Since when does an assistant get to tell me what to do? Step aside, or you won’t be able to face the consequences p>

“I certainly can’t afford the consequences, but the Stewart Group can. So, Ms. Green, please comply,” Davin said.

Jordy didn’t fall for Elena’s act. Seeing how Davin carried himself, he knew Elena was hiding something. “You suddenly decide to fly home, and I’m supposed to believe nothing’s up? Spill it, Elena. What did you do p>

“I already told you I didn’t do anything. Why would you side with someone else over your own family?” Elena said.

Jordy felt angered by her response. Davin stepped forward. “Ms. Green, please come with me p>
