Chapter 98:

The resort project in Prevda was now under Amelia’s leadership, and she threw herself into the challenge with single-minded resolve. Early in the morning, she arrived at the Stewart Group with enthusiasm.

Just as she reached the lobby, an unwelcome and unmistakable voice drifted to her ears. Drawing closer to the marble counter, Amelia spotted Jaxton alongside Santos. Their visit had one purpose: to persuade Wyatt to end their partnership. The receptionist, however, stopped them from going to Wyatt’s office because neither man had made an appointment in advance.

Jaxton wasted no time launching into complaints, his words bouncing off the receptionist’s practiced calm. Meanwhile, Santos spotted Amelia and smiled. “Amelia p>

If Amelia felt any gratitude toward the Morrison family, it was solely because of Santos. He had always treated her well.

With her name spoken in such a friendly tone, Amelia walked over and said in a gentle voice, “Santos p>

Amelia’s eyes didn’t so much as flicker in Jaxton’s direction. She ignored him completely.

Anticipating a greeting that never came, Jaxton grew angry. He blurted out his demand, “Amelia, since you’re Wyatt’s secretary, you can bring us to him, right p>

Before Amelia could respond, Santos reprimanded him, “Shut up p>

“But Dad, she’s the secretary. She could help us get in p>

Before Jaxton could finish, the receptionist’s respectful greeting sliced through the tension. “Mr. Stewart p>

All eyes swung toward the elevator at once. Wyatt strode out with Davin following closely behind. He surveyed the group and asked, his tone low and unwavering, “What’s happening here p>

Jaxton rushed forward. “Mr. Stewart, I’m Jaxton Morrison from the Morrison Group. I wanted to p>

“I wasn’t talking to you p>

Wyatt’s attention moved to Amelia, his eyes settling on her with an unreadable look. Something in his expression suggested to Amelia that he might be in a foul mood, though she couldn’t be certain.

As curious onlookers gathered, Amelia wasted no time. She quickly explained Santos’s purpose for visiting. Wyatt noticed her respect toward Santos and nodded, agreeing to discuss the matter in his office. Neither he nor Amelia so much as glanced at Jaxton.

Trailing after them, Jaxton stared at their backs as they entered Wyatt’s office, his mood darkening with every step. Once inside, Santos felt a sudden pressure. He found himself almost shrinking under Wyatt’s stern gaze. With a heavy sigh he said, “Mr. Stewart, the Morrison Group simply can’t muster the funds to see the Eastside Project through. My son overreached, and I’m hoping you’ll agree to cancel the partnership p>

“So, Mr. Morrison, are you intending to breach the contract?” Wyatt asked.

That accusation made Santos stammer. “N–no, it isn’t a breach p>

Unease growing, Santos lowered his head and said, “If you agree to let the Morrison Group out of this, whatever you require of us, we’ll do it without delay p>

With an unreadable look in his eyes, Wyatt gestured toward the sofa. “Sit down first p>

Settling nervously into the polished leather, Santos watched Wyatt take his seat. Wyatt then glanced at the empty space beside him and turned to Amelia. Without a word, she understood his silent invitation and sat down next to him. She had a hunch Wyatt wanted to reveal their relationship to everyone in the room.

Her instincts turned out to be right. Once Amelia sat, Wyatt casually rested his arm behind her. It looked as if she were in his arms.

Now, Jaxton was the only one standing in the room. Wyatt’s actions shocked him for a moment. Then he glared at Amelia with cold eyes.

A frown creased Santos’s brow, and he considered asking to speak with Wyatt alone. But before he could say anything, Wyatt said, “I’ll agree to end the partnership—on one condition p>

Santos and Jaxton immediately turned their attention to him. Amelia’s eyes flickered toward Wyatt; she had a hunch about what was coming next.

Wyatt caught her gaze and offered a reassuring glance. When he turned to the others, his expression went cold. “To end our contract, I want Jaxton to break off his engagement with Amelia p>

“What did you say p>

Jaxton, who had been standing nearby, lunged at Wyatt, only to be stopped by Davin. Irritation burned in Jaxton’s eyes, but Davin said with a sly grin, “Having trouble understanding Mr. Stewart’s words, Mr. Morrison p>

To Jaxton, Davin was merely an assistant. Hearing his taunt, Jaxton seethed with anger but didn’t dare retort in Wyatt’s presence. He could only shoot daggers at Amelia. Convinced that Wyatt’s sudden interference with the engagement was Amelia’s doing, he felt an urge to rush forward and slap her, but Wyatt’s presence forced him to hold back.

With displeasure in his eyes, Santos said, “Mr. Stewart, Amelia is free to make her own choices. She may work for the Stewart Group, but her personal life is her own and not subject to employer interference p>

Wyatt turned to Amelia. “Why don’t you explain to Mr. Morrison whether I have any say in this, Amelia p>
