When the next day rolled around, six o’clock in the evening found Amelia and Wyatt slipping into the VIP entrance of Harvest Moon Restaurant. A server led them through quiet halls up to a private room on the third floor, offering a clear view of everything unfolding below.
From there, Amelia could listen in on the Flynn family’s chatter drifting up from the room on the second floor.
Janessa checked her phone and frowned, saying, “What is the Morrison family up to? They’re more than ten minutes late p>
“Maybe if your daughter had a shred of self-respect and hadn’t gotten herself pregnant, you wouldn’t be waiting around like this now,” Lainey couldn’t help but mock her as soon as Janessa finished speaking.
Janessa had not planned to let Lainey know when the engagement party would happen, and she certainly had not wanted her to come.
Yet Amelia had taken matters into her own hands, arranging for a servant to tell Lainey about the matter and hint that the Morrisons would be bringing gifts for the Flynn family.
Tradition in Kretol called for the groom’s family to show up with engagement gifts for the bride’s relatives. Lainey insisted on coming, all for those engagement presents, but as things stood, she was beginning to wonder if the Morrisons would even honor the custom.
Janessa already disliked the marriage arrangement. Hearing Lainey’s snide remarks only stoked her temper. Just as she was about to snap, a loud noise broke out near the private room’s door.
At the first sound, the Flynns rushed to see what was happening. Dayna quickly got to the door, but the sight that greeted her caused her anger to ignite.
Kneeling right in front of the Morrison family, Layla let her tears spill over as she shielded her belly with both hands. Jaxton’s gaze turned cold when he caught sight of her, and he didn’t hesitate to snap, “Who allowed you to show up here? Leave immediately p>

The moment those words spilled out of Layla’s mouth, Dayna’s face turned pale. Up on the third floor, Amelia stared down with wide-eyed shock.
While Layla confessed, she handed a stack of paperwork—medical reports and grainy ultrasound images—to the Morrison family. She didn’t stop there. Her next words landed heavy: her unborn baby was a boy, confirmed by a blood test.
For Laura, the gloom she had worn moments ago vanished at the news. Her hand shot out, taking the documents from Layla.
“You’re a disgrace!” shouted Dayna, who could not restrain herself any longer. Right in front of the Morrison family, she lunged at Layla and tried to strike her. Layla reacted swiftly, immediately getting up from the floor and hiding behind the Morrison family members.
Because Dayna couldn’t risk offending the Morrison family, she stopped short. Tears slipped down her cheeks, her frustration boiling over.
Janessa witnessed the chaos and bristled with anger. Still, she knew better than to cause a scene. She dragged Dayna into the private room, closing the door behind them.
