Chapter 257:

“Amelia. M-Mr. Stewart p>

Matias had been listening to Denny and Axton’s conversation. Once he caught sight of Amelia, he quickly walked over. But the moment he recognized the tall man at her side, he came to a sudden stop.

A nod from Wyatt sent a rush of excitement through Matias, whose admiration for the man had never been subtle.

Though Amelia always knew Matias idolized Wyatt, watching his reaction still left her feeling a bit resigned. When she noticed Axton’s gaze drifting their way, she tugged Wyatt forward, eager to talk to Axton.

“You finally remembered to show up, didn’t you, kid?” said Axton.

Without missing a beat, Amelia responded, “I really should have come by sooner. I promise I’ll visit much more often from now on, Professor Patel p>

Axton let out a dramatic huff, but the warmth in his eyes betrayed his joy at Amelia’s presence.

Moments later, Denny strolled over, flashing a knowing smile. “So you made it at last, Amelia. Professor Patel was just talking about you a minute ago p>

Once Denny finished speaking, he glanced over at Wyatt, his voice distant. “Didn’t expect you to tag along, too, Mr. Stewart p>

Wyatt’s eyes cooled at Denny’s possessive manner, but he kept his tone light. “Amelia thought that I might be bored at home, so she brought me along to join the fun p>

Her eyes gleamed with pride as she stood quietly beside him.

A shadow passed over Denny’s features at Wyatt’s words.

Surveying the little group, Axton stepped closer and said, “Mr. Stewart, you’ll find our campus quite a sight. Make sure Amelia gives you a proper tour later p>

“Professor Patel, you’ve been Amelia’s mentor for years. Please, you can just call me Wyatt p>

Axton, having taught and guided students for a lifetime, had a sharp eye for people. He could see Wyatt’s unwavering gaze, and he believed Wyatt was exceptional.

Earlier, he might have wished for Amelia and Denny to be together, but seeing the chemistry between Amelia and Wyatt, he suddenly changed his mind.

At that moment, Wyatt handed Axton a brown bag. “There’s a bottle of wine inside from a local vineyard. Amelia said you’re fond of wine, so I brought it for you p>

Delight filled Axton’s face as he heard Wyatt’s words.

Amelia, on the other hand, showed a hint of surprise. She had never told Wyatt about Axton’s love for wine. When he’d taken the bag from the car, her question about its contents had gone unanswered; she had received just a mysterious smile from him. It had never crossed her mind that the bag held Axton’s favorite wine. Warmth spread through her as she realized just how thoughtful Wyatt had been.

Upon realizing the bag contained a famous wine, Axton eagerly opened it. Inside, he found a beautifully crafted bottle, finished off with a neat ribbon tied around it. The moment the scent of wine drifted up, his grin widened, joy lighting up his whole face. Nobody would have called the wine expensive, but the thoughtfulness behind the gift made it priceless. Nothing else truly captivated Axton, and when it came to material things, he barely had any wants outside his passion for wine.

Denny’s face clouded over as he watched the scene. His donation of fifty million, as generous as it was, now seemed to pale in comparison to this small gesture.

After putting away the wine, Axton looked up as Wyatt approached, a check in hand. “Amelia let me know the academy’s on the verge of launching fresh research. This check is from both of us, Professor Patel. I hope you’ll use the money to open up scholarship opportunities p>

Axton stared at Wyatt’s outstretched hand, surprise flickering before his smile returned. “Denny just handed me a donation, too p>

At that, Wyatt glanced at Denny, his lips curling up. “Looks like we were both thinking about the same thing p>

“Professor Patel, let’s see what Mr. Stewart gave the academy. Is it close to Mr. Williamson’s… Wait. One hundred million p>

Axton tried to keep the check out of reach, but Matias was too fast, snatching it before he could react. Everyone was shocked to hear the amount. Realizing his slip, Matias quietly handed the check back and slipped out through the doorway.

A hush fell over the classroom.

Standing there, Amelia couldn’t help but feel an odd tension as she met Denny’s gaze. Not wanting to linger, she turned to Axton and said, “Professor Patel, it’s been a while since you’ve seen Denny. I won’t take up more of your time. Wyatt and I will step out for a bit, and we’ll come back later p>

“Go ahead,” Axton replied, his voice easy as he motioned for her to go.

Without hesitation, Amelia guided Wyatt out the door. Denny’s eyes stayed fixed on her, refusing to look away even after she and Wyatt vanished from sight.

Axton, watching him, let out a silent sigh. He remembered how surprised he’d been when Denny first asked to become his student, and how he later realized the real reason—Denny’s affection for Amelia had been written all over his face. Axton had always had a soft spot for both Denny and Amelia; if they had ended up together, nothing would have pleased him more.

But fate had other plans.

“Denny, sometimes, if you miss someone, there’s no turning back. If you want to move forward, you need to let go,” Axton said.
