Chapter 188:

In the hospital along Kretol’s western stretch.

After Amelia had spoken with Carlee, relief trickled through her for just a moment. That relief vanished as soon as she saw the injury marking Wyatt’s back. Barrie kept close, concern etched across his face. In a gentle voice, he said, “Mrs. Stewart, maybe you should get changed out of those wet clothes. If you fall ill now, who will care for Mr. Stewart p>

The rain had left Amelia drenched, but she ignored the chill. Every bit of her attention locked on Wyatt, her own comfort forgotten.

Rain battered the windows with such force that the world outside faded into shadowy shapes. As Wyatt’s color drained, Amelia clung to his hand.

All of a sudden, Robbie’s phone began to ring. Carlee was on the other end of the line. Her voice crackled with urgency as she said that she and Davin, along with a few others, had reached the hospital entrance but didn’t know where they were.

“I’ll come find you p>

Without a pause, Amelia rushed straight into the storm, not even grabbing an umbrella.

Just outside the hospital doors, anxious faces waited. As Carlee ended her call, Davin was quick to ask, “How is Mr. Stewart p>

Amelia’s voice echoed before Carlee could respond.

Spotting her rushing through the rain, Carlee hurried over, shielding Amelia with her umbrella. “It’s raining. Why didn’t you bring an umbrella with you p>

Rather than responding, Amelia glanced past Carlee, her eyes searching for someone else. The moment she caught sight of Marc, she grabbed his arm. “Wyatt’s hurt. He’s still not awake. Barrie said he fainted p>

Fear and desperation tangled her words, making her explanation hard to follow.

Marc did not speak. Instead, he picked up his pace to follow her inside. When Davin had called Marc, Marc had been at Kretol City Hospital, so his assistant had come along to lend a hand. Barrie had also suffered injuries in the chaos.

Marc’s assistant went to check on Barrie while Marc himself hurried straight to Wyatt.

At first, the hospital doctor seemed put out by the crowd. But as soon as he realized who Marc was, he stepped aside without a word. A deep frown set on Marc’s face when he saw Wyatt’s wound.

After several tense minutes, Marc turned to the doctor standing nearby. “Get the operating room ready. Now p>

“Shouldn’t we deal with the wound first p>

“The injury on his back isn’t the real issue. He’s unconscious because of internal injuries. My guess is that a collision caused this, but I can’t determine the exact spot. It could be internal bleeding, maybe in his organs or his brain. So, he needs a full evaluation immediately p>

A ripple of fear passed through the group, and the urgency in Marc’s voice sent the doctor rushing to get the operating room set up.

Worried the situation might spiral out of control, Davin had shown up with a group of bodyguards in tow.

Judging he was no longer needed, Robbie quietly slipped away. Though he made his living as a fisherman, Robbie recognized that these people were not ordinary people.

Without wasting a moment, Amelia turned toward Carlee. “Do you have any cash with you p>

“I have some, but it’s not much p>

Bars and late-night runs meant Carlee usually kept bills handy. Tonight, though, after giving the taxi driver five grand, she dug through her purse and found just a little over two thousand left.

Amelia collected the money and hurried over to Robbie. “Robbie, please accept this p>

Robbie waved off her offer, shaking his head again and again at the sight of the bills.

“We have soaked your bed sheets and covers. Please accept this as a gesture of gratitude for your help,” Amelia said.

She pressed the money into his hand until Robbie gave in and tucked it away.

After Robbie had left, curiosity got the better of Carlee. “Amelia, what exactly happened p>

Marc and Davin both turned to hear Amelia’s answer.

Caught in their expectant gaze, Amelia began telling them everything that had unfolded. When she mentioned that the car had been tampered with at the Stewart Mansion, her eyes went cold.

Marc and Davin grew extremely grim upon hearing it. Marc cleaned Wyatt’s wound with hydrogen peroxide and washed away the sand from the injury.

Worried, Amelia watched every movement, unable to tear her eyes from Wyatt. He remained completely unresponsive despite the sting of antiseptic, and the worry in her chest tightened.

Soon, the nurses rolled Wyatt away toward surgery.

Carlee produced a hospital gown for Amelia just as the red light above the operating room snapped on. She insisted Amelia change, practically dragging her to the restroom.

As Amelia peeled off her soaked clothing, Carlee gasped at the sight of her scrapes and bruises. Only then did Amelia feel the sting of her own injuries.
