Chapter 64:
Heat rushed up Amelia’s neck, locking her in place as her pulse thundered in her ears.
“Just hold still. Let me see if you’ve hurt your foot,” Wyatt said.
His words chased away her panic, replacing her confusion with a sense of relief.
“Looks like there’s no sprain,” he said, and casually slipped her slipper back onto her foot.

Nothing about the moment felt real to Amelia. Wyatt, the man everyone admired in Kretol, was treating her with such gentle care. What on earth had she done to deserve this?
Once Wyatt straightened up, she scrambled to stand as well, but as soon as she did, her stomach let out a growl. Embarrassment crashed over her, and the sound of Wyatt’s soft laughter only warmed her cheeks further.
Noticing her flushed face, he stifled his amusement, though a sly grin still played at his mouth. “Go ahead and rest. I’ll see what I can whip up in the kitchen for you p>
Curiosity got the better of her, and Amelia raised her head. “You actually know how to cook? As someone of your status, you probably never have to do something like this, right p>
The buzz of alcohol made her bold enough to say it.
He lifted his gaze, eyes clear as he fixed them on hers. “I thought you already knew what kind of person I was two years ago p>
The meaning didn’t register at first, but when it clicked, color rushed up her neck. Her memory darted back to that night two years ago: she had found him bleeding in a deserted alley and had stripped away his clothes to check his wounds. But he had been unconscious then—how had he known she had done that?
As Amelia’s thoughts wandered, Wyatt had already gone to the kitchen with a smile.
After a while, he returned carrying a plate of food, only to find Amelia curled up and fast asleep on the sofa. Seeing this, he gently carried her to the bedroom and covered her with a blanket. Subconsciously, Amelia reached out to hold his arm, nestling her face against it.
The tender way she held onto him left Wyatt quietly astonished. Even through the fabric, he could feel the softness of her face, and he tenderly stroked her hair with his free hand. Settling onto the sofa near the bed, he allowed his gaze to linger on her face. Relief settled in his chest. Fortunately, she was still his.
Not long after, his phone buzzed. Not wanting to disturb Amelia, Wyatt quickly slipped out of the room before answering the call.
Davin’s voice spilled through the line, filled with nerves and regret. “Boss, I have to admit, this was on me. I’m sorry p>
Wyatt didn’t answer for a while, leaving Davin anxious, cursing Sally inwardly. Wyatt’s mind drifted to what Amelia had said earlier. Then he finally replied, “Let’s not intervene for now. You can help Amelia tomorrow, but only if she asks p>
He paused for a moment, then added, “Have Carlee come to Amelia’s place to take care of her now p>
Already back at her own place, Carlee rushed to Amelia’s apartment after she received Davin’s call. Bursting inside, she froze mid-step when she spotted Wyatt. Eye contact from Wyatt put her on edge, and she quickly said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Stewart. I will take good care of Amelia p>
Hearing this, Wyatt nodded and softly thanked her. Watching him leave, Carlee felt as if she were dreaming. She turned to look at Amelia, sleeping peacefully like a baby, and thought of Wyatt’s evident concern for her. She was genuinely happy for her friend to have someone care so much like this.
The next morning, Amelia stirred, heat prickling her skin. Panic set in when she realized she was in someone’s arms. But the moment she saw that Carlee was the one holding her, she let out a relieved sigh.
Embarrassment crept in as she shook her head. What a wild idea—to think for a second that Wyatt had been the one holding her. That was absurd!
Easing herself out of Carlee’s embrace, she reached for her phone on the bedside table. Panic returned when she checked the time—it was already past eight.
The noise of Amelia getting ready woke Carlee. Looking at her, she asked, “Aren’t you going to rest at home a bit longer? There’s no need to rush back to work p>
“I really have to go. If I don’t show up today, everyone will think I’m at home crying about my mistake,” Amelia replied.
After she had put in so much effort to get Patton to sign, she wanted to take the contract to Sally herself.
