Chapter 284:
Jaxton had forgotten to buckle his seatbelt, so when the car jolted to a stop, he slammed into the seat in front of him. Right then, someone yanked open the rear door from outside.
The world outside came into view, and Jaxton spotted the empty skeleton of an old construction site beside the highway. Scanning the distance, he caught sight of several taxis weaving across the overpass, all heading straight toward him.
Before long, the lead taxi rolled to a halt, and Davin emerged from the front seat. One glance at Jaxton’s disheveled state made Davin grin. “Mr. Morrison, our boss wants a word with you p>
Although his lips curled into a grin, Davin’s eyes gleamed with disdain. Jaxton’s face turned pale at his words, yet he feigned anger and said, “You can’t do this! This is against the law. You p>
“That’s funny, Mr. Morrison. You talk about the law, but when you kept going after Mrs. Stewart, did you care about breaking the law?” Davin cut him off. He slid the car door open and gestured with a small smirk. “After you, Mr. Morrison p>

“No, I’m not getting in the car!” Jaxton knew that getting into the car would only mean trouble for him, so he sprinted in the opposite direction.
Davin stayed put, watching Jaxton stagger off. The bodyguards looked ready to chase after him, but Davin stopped them. “Let him wear himself out p>
Davin stood in place, watching Jaxton run. After Jaxton had covered some distance, Davin instructed the bodyguards to get in the car with him. The cars gathered in a tight circle around Jaxton, with people inside watching as he ran, gasping for air.
Moments passed before Jaxton crashed to the ground, pain shooting through his thigh from his wound. He wanted to rise, but his strength wouldn’t cooperate, no matter how much he tried.
At that moment, Davin gave the bodyguards a look. Two bodyguards stepped out of the car, picked Jaxton up, and placed him in the trunk before shutting it firmly.
The following day, at Hillside Villa.
By the time Amelia woke up, Wyatt had already left the room. She went downstairs and asked Kurt about his whereabouts. Kurt quickly led her to the hill in the back.
Hillside Villa spread across an entire hillside, and behind it stood a thick forest. Even though Amelia had been living there for some time, she had never seen the forest until now. Before reaching it, she saw bodyguards stationed at the entrance. With a quick turn of the wrist, Kurt lowered the car window. The bodyguards spotted him and immediately stepped aside.
The drive up the mountain ended at a sprawling training field. Amelia exited the car and immediately spotted Wyatt leaning beneath a tree, exuding an intimidating aura. Two bloodied men knelt at his feet, shivering. Drawing closer, Amelia realized these two men were the same bodyguards who had taken bribes.
Right then, Barrie, who stood next to Wyatt, leaned over and muttered something to him. Wyatt turned, his cold expression melting as soon as his eyes met Amelia’s. He quickly approached, clasping her hand, his tone edged with concern.
“Why are you here p>
His glance swept over Kurt, who was standing behind her. Not wanting Kurt to take the blame, Amelia rushed to explain, “When I woke up, you were nowhere to be found. Kurt only led me here because I insisted. Please don’t blame him p>
“Just this once, I’ll let it go,” said Wyatt.
Kurt let out a relieved sigh and responded, “Thank you, Mr. Stewart p>
Taking a quick look at the men on their knees, Amelia frowned. Barrie, quick to notice that, hurried forward, guilt etched on his face. “Mrs. Stewart, the fault’s mine. I should have watched over them better. I never meant for you to get hurt p>
“You don’t need to blame yourself for what happened. This isn’t on you,” Amelia interjected, seeing the guilt in Barrie’s eyes.
Barrie’s role put him in charge of all the bodyguards at Hillside Villa. Having two turn traitor left him feeling deeply ashamed in front of both Wyatt and Amelia. Despite being injured, Barrie had personally gone to capture the two culprits.
“Mrs. Stewart, I beg you to forgive me. I didn’t have any other choice…” Unable to hold back, one of the kneeling bodyguards pleaded desperately, reaching for Amelia’s pants. But before he could touch her, Wyatt’s foot lashed out, sending him sprawling. The second bodyguard, seeing what had just happened, trembled and didn’t dare make a sound.
“I will give you one last chance. Tell me who put you up to this,” Wyatt said.
