For all her efforts, Amelia could not get Carlee to budge. Carlee had a strong aversion to needles, which made her particularly resistant to hospital visits. Realizing she was fighting a losing battle, Amelia dropped the subject.
“Dayna smashed my phone earlier. Could I borrow yours so I can reach Monroe p>
Without a pause, Carlee handed the device over. While Amelia took it, Carlee muttered, “What’s wrong with Dayna? Did she lose her mind, smashing your phone p>
The call went through, and a rough, slightly groggy voice sounded from the other end of the line. “Why are you calling me at this hour? Are you drunk p>
“It’s Amelia. I need to talk to you,” Amelia said.
Suddenly, the tone on the other end brightened, and the excitement was unmistakable. “Wait, you’re calling from Carlee’s number? I figured she was out cold by now p>
Monroe Smith was one of Amelia’s rare trusted friends, just like Carlee. Monroe was a guy. After her engagement to Jaxton, Amelia had limited their contact to avoid displeasing the Morrison family. Still, it didn’t affect their friendship.

“Same goes for me, Amelia. I can transfer you a few million right now if you need it,” Monroe said.
A soft smile flickered across Amelia’s lips as she gently refused their help. With a little pressing from the two, she finally revealed the matter of her grandmother’s hospital bills. Hearing the truth, Monroe went silent. A moment passed, then he agreed to help sell her jewelry pieces and arranged to meet her the next day to take them.
Amelia didn’t mention Wyatt’s involvement to Monroe, and Carlee chose not to bring it up either. After the call ended, Carlee couldn’t help but say to Amelia, “With your marriage to Wyatt coming up soon, it’s normal for him to cover your grandmother’s medical bills p>
“Regardless of what he thinks, this is money I have to pay back,” Amelia said, her tone firm.

Carlee saw how determined Amelia looked, and worry crept into her voice. “Do you really think the Morrisons will be okay with that p>
