Chapter 402:
“To your home?” Vida’s cloudy eyes sparked with light, but then she quickly shook her head. “I’ll pass. I’m used to being by Jewell’s side.” She felt too old to be of use to Wyatt and feared troubling him.
Wyatt’s brow furrowed, ready to protest, but Amelia gently squeezed his hand, stopping him.
“Vida, could I ask for your help with something?” Amelia said.
“Of course, anything you need,” Vida replied earnestly.
“I’ve seen the garden you tended just now; it’s stunning. Wyatt and I are planning our wedding, and the flowers we have can’t compare to yours. Would you help us with the garden at Hillside Villa p>
Vida hesitated after hearing that. If the task had been anything other than gardening, Vida might have doubted her ability to excel, but in nurturing plants, her expertise surpassed anyone in the Stewart family.
“Once our wedding is over, you’re welcome to return here anytime you like,” Amelia assured her.
Vida’s eyes softened, and she nodded. “Very well. I’ll go to Hillside Villa. Just let me know your favorite flowers, and I’ll ensure they flourish beautifully for you p>
When Vida regained enough strength to stand, Amelia gently supported her as she rose from the sofa.
As Amelia guided Vida toward the door to leave, Jewell instinctively moved to intervene, but Wyatt stepped in his way and said, “Are you truly blind to the kind of life Vida has been enduring here p>

Jewell’s eyes flickered with unease at Wyatt’s words, betraying his guilt.
Wyatt’s lips twisted into a sardonic smile. “Looks like you’ve known all along. Aren’t you afraid Grandma would be ashamed of you for letting Vida suffer like this p>
With that, Wyatt turned and walked away.
Jewell’s face paled as he watched him leave. He suddenly remembered something. When he was fourteen, Vida had intended to return to Polly’s care, but he had begged her to stay, and she had stayed — for him.
At that moment, Kamila stepped forward and said, “Jewell, Wyatt is p>
“How could you be so heartless? Vida raised me! Couldn’t you have treated her better?” Jewell interjected sharply.
Kamila stood frozen, stunned by his outburst. After a moment, she scoffed, “Weren’t you also hoping she would leave p>
“I was…” Jewell hesitated, his voice faltering.
At first, when Kamila had begun mistreating Vida, she had feared that Jewell might get angry. But his silence had emboldened her, allowing her cruelty to escalate unchecked. In truth, Jewell’s inaction was the root of it all.
But once the truth was exposed, Jewell began blaming her for everything, and Kamila felt the hypocrisy of the man she shared her life with for the first time.
