Finding no cabs in sight, she decided to walk, enjoying the cool evening air.
As she turned a corner, the scene ahead froze her in her tracks. Bella stood locked in a heated argument with a middle-aged man.
He looked rough—disheveled, his clothes worn and tattered. His face was tense, his movements frantic as he gripped Bella’s arm, trying to pull her in his direction. Bella, her expression twisted with disgust, struggled to free herself.
“Let go of me!” she snapped, jerking back, but the man’s grip only tightened.
Yelena’s brows furrowed as she observed the tense exchange. Who was this man? Why was he desperately holding on to Bella like that? What was going on between them?
If he were just a random troublemaker, surely Bella would have screamed for help.
But she didn’t. Instead, her sharp, impatient tone cut through the air, filled with annoyance rather than fear.
Their interaction held a strange familiarity that Yelena couldn’t place, as if they shared a history neither wanted to acknowledge.
What could Bella—the supposed poised, high-society woman—possibly have anything to do with a man like that?
The connection was baffling, almost surreal.
After a struggle, Bella finally yanked her arm free. She threw a cutting glare at the man, her words sharp and dismissive. “Don’t follow me!” she snapped before spinning on her heel and walking away.
The man didn’t chase her. Instead, he stood frozen, his shoulders slumping with frustration.
His eyes, however, remained fixed on Bella’s retreating figure, filled with a mixture of longing and determination. He couldn’t believe his luck. After years of searching, he had finally found her.

Just as he was leaving the casino, he had spotted Bella, and her resemblance to his wife in her youth was uncanny.
Years ago, he and his wife had lost their daughter. And now, staring at Bella, he was certain the universe had given him a second chance. Surely, Bella was that daughter. He hadn’t conducted a DNA test yet, but he trusted his instincts.
There was a bond, one deeper than logic—a connection only a father and daughter could share.
She might have been startled by his abrupt approach, but that didn’t matter.
Time was on his side. Now that he knew she was in Eighfast, reconnecting with her would be much easier.
Meanwhile, Yelena lingered for a moment, watching Bella walk away hurriedly before deciding to head home herself.
As long as the people Bella associated with didn’t pose a threat to the Harris family, Yelena had no reason to interfere.
Bella, however, was far from calm. Her heart raced as she stormed away, practically breaking into a run to escape the bizarre encounter.

Who in their right mind would approach a stranger, grab their arm, and claim they were their daughter? The memory made her shudder. She had never seen the man before in her life.
