Callum pulled Katelyn aside. “Are you not worried about Bernice being like this now p>
Katelyn nodded gravely. Her concern was evident.
Her insistence on leaving with Bernice overnight was driven by a desire to protect her daughter from further distress.
“Just stay here,” Callum said. “Don’t worry about anything else. I’ll arrange for a therapist to check on Bernice p>
Tears welled up in Katelyn’s eyes as she choked back sobs. “Thank you, Callum p>
“Don’t mention it,” Callum replied softly. “I’m your brother. It’s what I’m here for p>
Katelyn then approached Bernice, who was getting up from the sofa.
“Can we leave now?” Bernice asked.
“We’re staying,” Katelyn said gently.
“Why?” Bernice looked puzzled.
“It’s late, and I’m too tired. I suddenly feel out of breath,” Katelyn said.
If Katelyn had offered a different reason, Bernice might have been skeptical. However, when Katelyn mentioned her exhaustion…
Difficulty breathing, Bernice immediately became concerned about her mother’s health and agreed to stay without hesitation.
Concerned, Bernice asked, “Are you alright? How do you feel now p>
“I’m just tired,” Katelyn reassured her. “I’ll be fine after some rest p>
Relieved, Bernice nodded.
Once they decided to stay, Callum felt a wave of relief wash over him. With plenty of rooms available, he let Bernice and Katelyn choose their own.

Later, sitting on the bed, Katelyn pondered how to start a conversation with Bernice when there was a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” Katelyn called out.
“It’s me.” Yelena’s voice came through. “I brought some milk for you p>
“Come in,” Katelyn responded.
Yelena entered the room and handed a warm glass of milk to Katelyn. “Aunt Katelyn, drink some warm milk. It’ll soothe your nerves,” she said.
“Thank you,” Katelyn replied, accepting the milk.
“Could I have a moment to chat with Bernice?” Yelena asked.
Katelyn, having grown to trust Yelena, nodded. “Of course. It’s good for you girls to talk, being around the same age p>
Katelyn took her milk and retired to her room, hoping Yelena could offer Bernice some comfort.
With Bella’s regular therapist away on a business trip and not due back in Eighfast until the next day, Katelyn was worried about Bernice. She had actually decided to spend the night in Bernice’s room to provide comfort.
Normally, Bernice would ignore Yelena and might even find her annoying. However, in that moment, seeing Yelena brought her a sense of security.
Yelena then took her cat, Aus, off her shoulder and placed him in Bernice’s hands.
Both Bernice and Aus looked less than thrilled.
“Don’t you think he’s cute and cuddly?” Yelena asked, attempting to lighten the mood.
Bernice eyed Aus skeptically. “It’s fierce. How can it be cute p>
Aus seemed to agree with Bernice, showing his teeth in displeasure. Yelena gently stroked Aus’s head, clearly enjoying the interaction. “Hmm, that feels great, huh?” Pleased by Yelena’s touch, Aus closed his eyes, purring contentedly.
