The woman was momentarily taken aback. While Yelena’s clothes didn’t look particularly expensive, they were clean and neat, and she carried herself with a subtle sense of elegance.

Nicole hadn’t thought about it that way. Since Yelena insisted, she felt she had no choice but to agree.
“Are you back for the class reunion?” Nicole asked.
Class reunion? When was that? Yelena was completely unaware of any such event taking place.
Yelena had transferred to another school in fourth grade when she moved to Eighfast. Back then, her classmates had no means of staying in touch since they didn’t really have their own phones, and over time, she lost contact with them.
In truth, however, Yelena wouldn’t have bothered reaching out even if she had their contact information.
Yelena studied Nicole’s face, and memories began to surface.
Nicole was one of the few classmates Yelena could talk to, though they were hardly close.

Yelena despised those kids and kept to herself.
But Nicole was different. Seated next to her by their teacher, Nicole would eagerly strike up conversations after class about various topics, as if they had been friends forever.
Initially, Yelena was irritated by her presence, but over time, she grew to tolerate Nicole as long as she didn’t intrude too much into her life.
When Yelena moved to a different city, Nicole was devastated. She even visited Yelena’s grandfather’s house searching for her, but Yelena was already gone by the time.

“Let me handle the rest of the deliveries,” Yelena said.
She had several ways to assist Nicole—easier and more direct ways—but she preferred not to.
After all, it had been years since they last met, and Yelena was out of touch with Nicole’s current circumstances. She hesitated to solve the problem with money right away, unsure how Nicole might react or if it would cause discomfort.
