With a firm press of her lips, Donna shook her head at Yelena, insisting, “Yelena, it’s all my fault. I should have never left you by yourself p>
With gentle hands, Yelena helped her mother to her feet. She then said to Donna, “Mom, I’ve never held you responsible. Also, I didn’t ignore your calls deliberately. My phone just ran out of battery and I didn’t realize it p>
Turning slightly to glance at Elianna, Yelena continued, “If disappearing without telling anyone is wrong, then shouldn’t Bella be punished too? Her mistake seems far worse p>
Elianna’s face twisted with scorn, and she retorted sharply, “Ridiculous! Bella did nothing to deserve punishment. Your harsh words drove her away, nothing else p>
