Reassured by Maggie’s promise, Lena resumed licking its paw and grooming itself, looking utterly content.

Maggie’s lips quirked into a smile. Austin’s indulgence of Lena was boundless.
Yet, Austin was not a pet lover. When Maggie impulsively bought a puppy in the past, Austin had insisted she rehome it not long after. Austin had no allergies; he simply preferred not to have small animals around.
That was exactly why Maggie was stunned to find Lena in Austin’s house initially.
“Yelena, my idol’s movie comes out today. Want to go see it with me?” Bernice breezed in and sat beside Yelena, her excitement palpable.
Bella was also there, observing Bernice’s attachment to Yelena. Previously, Bernice had been just as clingy with Bella, who had found it irritating. But now, feeling sidelined, Bella somehow missed the attention.
Bella knew of Bernice’s admiration for Colden, whose movie premiere was that day. Rumors were that Colden would appear for a meet-and-greet post-show. Eager to delight Bernice, Bella had secured tickets well in advance, hoping to surprise her cousin.
Bernice hadn’t even spoken to Bella lately, so Bella was unaware that Bernice had already purchased tickets herself to see the movie with Yelena.

Bella paused, hurt flashing across her face. “Bernice, I’m sorry. It was wrong of me to invite myself. I’ll leave you to it,” she murmured, moving toward the door.
Bernice, preoccupied with her phone, paid her no mind.

Staring at her phone in frustration, she continued, “I already paid for them, but now I didn’t get a ticket? Was I scammed p>
Bella turned back and approached Bernice, who looked up with suspicion. “What do you want?” Bernice asked warily.
Bella looked at Bernice and laughed bitterly, surprised by her cousin’s coldness.
