“Absolutely,” Maggie said.
As Yelena and Maggie engaged in joyful conversation, Monica experienced a surge of unease. She sat there, her hands tightly clenched, her fingernails pressing into her palms. Just then, the sound of footsteps came from the door.
Monica assumed it was Austin returning, and despite being in her wheelchair, she made her way quickly toward the sound. She wanted to be the first person Austin saw.
Sure enough, as the footsteps approached, Austin’s tall and handsome figure appeared before Monica.
“Austin, you’ve returned!” Monica exclaimed, her face glowing with joy and affection, much like a wife eagerly awaiting her husband’s return. Austin glanced at Monica, his expression calm and unreadable, offering no clear response.
He acknowledged Monica with a brief nod.
As Austin’s eyes shifted to Yelena, sitting nearby, a distinct spark of happiness lit up his gaze.
Austin walked by Monica without glancing at her again.
“Why are you here today?” Austin asked.
Yelena replied, “I brought some pastries for Mrs. Barton to sample.” So, Yelena’s visit wasn’t about him.
Nonetheless, Austin’s demeanor brightened noticeably at Yelena’s presence, his face breaking into a genuine smile.

Austin’s eyes widened as he saw the perfume in Maggie’s hands, clearly stunned.
He did remember it—how could he not?
This perfume was a gift from his father to his mother. After the bottle shattered, knowing his mother’s fondness for it, he had taken it upon himself to search for another. But it had long been discontinued, and even the headquarters of Fragrance Haven had only one bottle left, which they wouldn’t sell to Austin.
Austin was surprised that Maggie was now holding a new bottle. No wonder she was so excited.
“It’s all thanks to Yelena. She gave it to me,” Maggie told Austin.
Austin turned to Yelena and said, “I didn’t think you’d find such an ideal gift. My mother is quite picky p>
Maggie shot Austin a look and said, “What do you mean? You make me sound so hard to please. I would appreciate any gift from Yelena p>
Maggie continued, “I’m going to take it back to my room and keep it safe. I definitely don’t want it to break again p>
Maggie, showing great care for the perfume, held it delicately, ensuring it remained secure.
Maggie excused herself, leaving Austin and Yelena alone.
However, Monica remained, seemingly unaffected by the exchange. Maggie cleared her throat and said to Monica, “Monica, didn’t you mention you were tired and wanted to go back to your room to rest?” Monica was puzzled. She was sure she had never said such a thing.
