He knew Callum was protective of Yelena, especially since she had only recently reconnected with her family after years apart. The tension from their last big argument still lingered.

When Yelena returned home, the kitten, initially asleep, stirred at her scent. It opened its eyes and meowed at her, seeking her attention.
Yelena felt a rush of affection.

Previously, when Yelena still lived with Archie, she had a cat that was black, imposing, and agile. It was particularly adept at catching mice. Yelena and Archie were both very fond of that cat. It was also a stray that Yelena had discovered.
After Archie’s death, Yelena moved with Jonathan and Tatiana to Eighfast, bringing the cat along. However, Tatiana disliked cats and had someone dispose of it.
When Yelena returned from school and couldn’t find the cat, she searched desperately. Tragically, she later discovered it had been hit by a car and was already dead.
Yelena was heartbroken. Tatiana, with a tone of disdain, dismissed it as just a stray cat and claimed its death was inconsequential. Now, Yelena had taken in another stray, but this time, her family welcomed it warmly, a stark contrast to before.

He wasn’t particularly fond of animals. But since Yelena liked it, he kept his opinions to himself.
“Honey, come and see; it’s so cute.” Donna lifted the cat and purposefully brought it closer to Callum.
She was well aware of Callum’s aversion to animals. When Cayson was younger and expressed a desire for a pet, Callum was adamant about not having any furry animals in the house.
In an attempt to compromise, Callum had a fish pond installed in the yard, suggesting that the koi fish were sufficient as pets. This decision frustrated Cayson to the point of giving Callum the silent treatment for days.
Surprisingly, this time around, Callum was supportive of Yelena’s wish to keep the cat, even proposing to build a playground for it.
“Don’t, don’t bring it near me,” Callum protested, raising his hands defensively.
