“Why waste time guessing when we could just go and see for ourselves?” Callum suggested.
By dinner time, Callum’s family, along with Katelyn and Bernice, had arrived at Harris Mansion. Seated at the head of the table, Elianna looked around at everyone, her gaze commanding attention.
“You’ve arrived. Please, take your seats p>
Callum and Katelyn shared a look, both feeling a sense of unease. Elianna seemed a bit off today, which gave them the impression that something unsettling was about to unfold.
“Mom, do you have something on your mind?” Katelyn asked.
Elianna scoffed and gave Katelyn a sharp glance. “What do you mean? Is it not possible for me to invite you to dinner without having any reason p>
Katelyn frowned.
Callum intervened to ease the situation. “Katelyn just meant that it’s been some time since we’ve all gathered like this. She’s glad to be here. Perhaps you have some pleasant news for us, do you p>
Pleasant news? Elianna thought to herself with frustration, not seeing the news she had as anything good.
“Let’s eat first,” Elianna said, brushing off the topic.
Yelena and Bernice exchanged looks, and when no one was watching, Bernice seized the moment to make a silly face at Yelena and chuckled quietly. Bernice had a strong sense that whatever Elianna had to say, it wouldn’t be good news.
Yelena shot Bernice a reassuring glance, silently urging her to stay calm. Although Elianna hadn’t said a word yet, Bernice was already feeling uneasy.
Bernice licked her dry lips and sat down, feeling defeated.

Kaiden blinked, utterly baffled. Why was Callum giving him that look while casually mentioning they might be short on cooks?
“What’s that supposed to mean, Callum?” Kaiden asked, his confusion evident.
Callum stared at him, momentarily speechless. How could someone be this dense?
Callum’s tone sharpened as he spoke, “Marriage means cherishing your wife, not reducing her to some glorified housemaid. She might cook a dish or two if she’s in the mood, but expecting her to handle the entire meal? That’s unnecessary. In her free time, she should be resting, not overworking herself p>
Kaiden’s expression shifted as realization dawned on him. “Hold on, Callum. It wasn’t me. I didn’t ask her to do all this p>
Kaiden turned to Dina, his frustration barely contained. That woman! He hadn’t asked her to take on all this. She’d insisted on doing everything herself, and now, thanks to her, he looked like the bad guy in front of Callum.

Dina flushed with embarrassment, unsure how to interpret Callum’s words. Was he scolding Kaiden for not stepping up, or was he subtly calling her out for being thoughtless? Either way, it was painfully clear that Callum wasn’t impressed with her efforts.
