The woman’s face was pale. Finally feeling a sense of safety, she suddenly broke down in tears, crying out loud.
Yelena assessed the woman and discovered that, like Bernice, she had inhaled an unidentified gas, which had left her body frail. Although she had regained consciousness, she was still too weak to move on her own.
Bernice stood frozen, too shocked to utter a single word. She thought about how, if her watch hadn’t worked and she had passed out too, she could have suffered the same fate as this woman.

Yelena took out her phone and found that there really was no signal in the area. It made sense now why Katelyn had mentioned she couldn’t reach Bernice all morning.
Yelena began fiddling with her phone and explained, “They must have used a device to block the phone signal. I’ll have it unlocked soon p>
Bernice looked at Yelena, skeptical, thinking that she was probably just making things up. She didn’t believe for a second that Yelena had that kind of capability.
Bernice squatted down, helping the woman adjust her clothes to cover her body.
“Did you see where the others went?” Bernice inquired.
The woman bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. She shook her head, unable to offer any information.
She was filled with deep regret. If she had known things would turn out like this, she would never have come in the first place.

She quickly checked her phone, astonished to see that the signal had returned. She had received several messages and missed calls from Katelyn.

Austin explained, “The situation is more complicated on my end. There was an accident nearby, and all the roads leading to your area are blocked.
