Despite her outward compliance, Bella’s insides were boiling with frustration. Why was she the one getting blamed when it was Yelena who was always causing problems?
“Good. It’s getting late, so go rest up. By the way, there’s a soiree this weekend, and we’ll be having some really nice tea. Some rare varieties even, or so I heard. I’ve been invited and plan to take you both.” Donna’s tone was eager as she looked forward to Yelena fitting into the elite world as soon as possible.
She had heard whispers about Yelena’s past, how her adoptive family had only recently managed to turn their luck around. Before that, they had been far from wealthy. So, Donna figured Yelena hadn’t had many chances to experience events like this.
At the mention of the soiree, Yelena couldn’t help but suppress a small, almost imperceptible smile. Did these high-society folks truly have nothing better to do than throw these glittering, self-congratulatory affairs? She wasn’t a fan, but Donna had asked, and it would’ve been rude to say no. “Alright,” she said with a resigned sigh.
Bella’s eyes sparkled with excitement, her grin as bright as ever. “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll give it my all!” she declared, full of confidence.
Having already honed her etiquette under the guidance of a well-known expert, Bella felt truly confident. Every time Donna took her to one of those posh gatherings, Bella was showered with compliments. She had no doubt this time would be the same—another triumph in the making!
The next morning at the Harris family’s villa, the whole family was gathered for breakfast.
With it being New Year’s Day, everyone was free from work and school, so the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. As they dug into their breakfast, Callum, noticing the whole family was present, spoke up. “The weather’s looking gorgeous today. How about we head out to the countryside resort after breakfast? We could go horseback riding or maybe just unwind in the hot springs. What do you think p>

Since it was a holiday, Bernice had chosen to stay with the Harris family.
She preferred staying at the Harris villa, where she could hang out with her cousin Bella, who was her own age, and feel more at ease.
At her own home, she always felt boxed in.
Katelyn, on the other hand, wasn’t exactly thrilled about her marriage either. On the surface, she and her husband made a picture-perfect couple, but only they knew the real story behind their relationship.
Still, Katelyn didn’t mind as long as she had the comforts of her brother’s family.
Everyone else seemed excited about the plan, but Yelena remained calm, her face neutral. She wasn’t particularly excited, but she wasn’t opposed either.
After breakfast, Callum arranged two cars, and before long, the entire family was on their way to the countryside resort.
This particular resort was one of the Harris family’s investments, so as soon as they arrived, there were staff members waiting to cater to their every need—from meals to accommodations to entertainment.
Their rooms were all conveniently located next to each other, so they wouldn’t be far apart during their stay.
Bella and Bernice shared a spacious room, as they often did when they traveled. It was a comfortable, familiar arrangement. Once they settled in and unpacked, everyone split off to enjoy the activities of their choice.
