No matter what, Bella was determined to give it her all and ensure that Yelena didn’t outperform her. If necessary, she was prepared to use a few tricks to make sure she shone.
Yelena arched an eyebrow, wondering what scheme Bella was plotting this time.
In all honesty, she had felt that her recent days had been rather uneventful and welcomed the perceived provocation from Bella.
“What does that have to do with you?” Yelena replied coldly.
Bella looked at Yelena with a hurt expression and said softly, “Please don’t take it the wrong way. I meant no harm. I just wanted to mention that I have a few ideas. If you’re struggling to come up with a theme, feel free to ask me, and I’d be happy to offer some suggestions p>
Yelena smirked, a condescending look in her eyes. Suggestions? Even if Bella was willing to offer them, they were unlikely to be useful.
“No, thanks,” Yelena said, turning to leave.
But Bernice called out sharply to her. “Yelena, you’re being rude! Bella is just trying to help, yet you’re acting so high and mighty. How can you behave like this? You come from a family that has never really exposed you to anything related to design. What could you possibly come up with that would be worth anything? You’re useless, and you can’t even be humble about it p>
Bella was pleased to see things unfolding as planned. She pretended to be fine and said, “It’s alright, Bernice. Yelena has her own ideas. Even though I’m just trying to help, she has the right to do things her way. We can’t interfere p>
Bella’s words seemed kind, but in reality, she was merely stoking Bernice’s anger.
“You’re always so nice, even defending her now. But she doesn’t appreciate it. That’s just too much!” Bernice exclaimed, her frustration growing.
“Since you love playing innocent, go ahead. Keep at it!” Yelena said to Bella, then walked away.
Bernice stood there, still baffled by Yelena’s response.
“Hey, stop! What do you mean by that?” Bernice yelled. “She hasn’t done anything wrong. Of course, she’s innocent p>
“Bernice, it’s late! Why are you shouting? Your grandma is resting. You’ll wake her up!” Katelyn came out from the guest room just in time to hear Bernice’s loud voice. Although Katelyn had returned to live with the Harris family—who had been very welcoming—she still felt like an outsider now that she was married. It wasn’t her home anymore.
Katelyn had always believed she was her parents’ most beloved daughter and that, no matter what, she would never lose her home after marriage.
It was only now that she had fully come to terms with some harsh realities.
She had to tread carefully with the Herrera family, which made her unhappy.
While she felt more at ease with the Harris family, she knew she had to remain courteous, as this was now her brother’s home.
If she upset anyone there, she would have no choice but to leave.
Although Katelyn’s marriage into the Herrera family appeared grand and enviable on the surface, the reality was that Moss firmly held the reins of control at home. To make matters worse, Katelyn had only given birth to a daughter, which left Moss and his family deeply dissatisfied with her.
Moss tightly controlled Katelyn’s spending, restricting her to a meager allowance every month.
If Katelyn wanted to maintain the lifestyle she was accustomed to, relying solely on that pittance would have been completely unrealistic.
As a result, she had no choice but to stay with the Harris family.
“Mom, it wasn’t me. Yelena is just so mean,” Bernice recounted the incident to Katelyn, hoping that she would reprimand Yelena.
