Chapter 35
Kaia’s POV
As I ran, I heard Kieran’s footsteps behind me, trying to catch up with me. He was calling out to me but I kept going until I got to the room. I slammed the door shut, the sound echoing through the room, resting my back against it, feeling the cool wood against my skin.
Tears pricked at the corner of my eyes as I bent down, wrapping my arms around my legs and burying my head in between my knees, I let the tears fall. I hated how easy it was for me to cry.
“A rogue? Goddess!” His mom had said, spitting the word ‘rogue’ with so much disgust. “You knew this and still went ahead to mark her?” She asked.
Kieran’s voice sounded strained, “I don’t care, she’s mine and that’s not going to change p>
The words played over and over in my head, maybe it’d hurt less if I heard it long enough
Kieran made an attempt to open the door but nothing happened since I already locked it. Even without seeing him, I knew he was running his hands through his hair.
“Bella, open the door please.” He begged, his voice soft and gentle.
“Come on, Kaia.” Lylah urged.
Another knock sounded on the door and this time, I pushed myself up, using the back of my hand to wipe my eyes before throwing the door open.
I was met with a very worried Kieran. Concern was etched on his face and as soon as the door was wide enough, he pulled me into his arms. I didn’t waste time as I snuggled closer.
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, I wanted to surprise you.” My voice was barely above a whisper.
He nodded, caressing my hair. “You did surprise me.” He said, kissing the top of my head and my body melted under his touch.
He led me towards the bed, cuddling me closer.
“Your mom, s-she I trailed off, unable to bring myself to even say it.
The fact that even without meeting me, she already disliked…hated me. And the reason wasn’t far off. My background, or lack of it. The same reason Aiden didn’t want me.
And I realized that it’d been a while I thought about them, my life at my former pack.
“We’re so happy here,” Lylah said and I couldn’t agree less.
“My mom can be a lot, but she’ll come around once she sees that I love you and there’s nothing she could do about it.” He assured me and unlike other times when I feel at peace with his words, this was different.
I should’ve taken Allie seriously.
“You said she wasn’t going to be here for another two days p>
He sighed, “She said she wanted to surprise me p>
She succeeded, not only him. Mine was more like a shock though.
Kieran kept murmuring softly but my mind was far gone. “Was it always going to be like this?” I thought. It felt like we were happy for one moment and the next, something was happening to ruin it.
“It’ll be ruined only if you let it.” Lylah said.
“But it’s his mom, what if she forces him to leave me?” My voice trembled slightly.
The thought of her actually succeeding sent me into a panic attack and the thought of him with someone else…I didn’t want to imagine it. I didn’t want to imagine another girl in his arms, smiling at him.
“Bella,” I heard Kieran call, his voice sounded far away. “Bella he called again, this time, jerking me back to the present. Only then did I notice that my fingers were digging into his skin.
My eyes widened in horror, “I’m so sorry.” I apologized, caressing the place the mark my nails left.
“It’s okay.” He assured me, but I shook my head. “It’s not.” I told him, my voice breaking.
Helping me up, he sat upright and turned me so I could face him. “I don’t know how much you heard, but you don’t have anything to worry about when it comes to my mom p>
I sighed, “but she’s your mom p>
“And you’re my mate.” His eyes flashed with possessiveness, “you’re my mate and you come first p>
I fought back a smile, even Lylah was swooning in my head.
My eyes met his gaze; I debated telling him my actual fear, that I was scared that one day he would realize that he was better off without me.
When he first found me, I wanted that because there was no attraction apart from the mate bond but I couldn’t say the same thing now. My feelings for him grew each time he proved that he was here to stay. When he stayed even when it was hard.
“What are you thinking so hard about?” Kieran asked me. “Talk to me, Bella.” he said, taking my hand in his.
Taking several deep breaths, I spoke, my voice barely audible, “I’m scared p>
He ran a hand through his hair, “look at me.” He commanded softly and I did. My eyes staring at his blue eyes that I’ve grown to love.
“You don’t have anything to be scared of, and I wasn’t playing around when I told you that my love for you would never change p>
“I’m scared I continued, “that you’ll find someone bett p>
His lips came crashing on mine, the warmth of his breath sending shivers down
my spine, kissing me roughly, cutting whatever I was going to say. He ended the
kiss before I could respond and a groan left my lips.
“You’re the only one I want, I’m not looking for anyone else p>
“Are you going to kiss me now?” I asked.
“Fuck yes!” He groaned, connecting our lips again.
I knew I was changing the subject, but I couldn’t help it. Running away from my problem became my defense mechanism but right now, all I wanted was his lips on mine.
And soon enough, I found myself drifting off to sleep, his arms enveloped me, providing warmth and for a moment I could forget about his mom and her obvious dislike for me.
