Chapter 85
Chapter 88
Ryder’s POV
I sighed, falling on my bed with a loud thud. It’s been a long day, but I was relieved Caleb was okay thanks to Luna Kaia. It would’ve gone a different way without her.
But for the moment when we were trying to make sure Caleb was fine, I was able to take my mind off every other thing…Allie. Seeing her in the arms of another person…especially him, felt like the universe was having fun watching me suffer. Even after everything we had, she was going to let him mark her.
“We ended things, we have no one else to blame.” Kaid said, “we deserved it.” He was right, I pushed her into his arms and as much as it pained me to admit, she looked happy.
“We were doing it for our mate p>
Kaid growled, “she doesn’t want us, get over it.” He said, and I felt my chest tightened.
Although she didn’t end up rejecting me, she didn’t accept me either. But she always found her way to me whenever she felt and each time, I promised myself that it was going to be the last time but I end up saying the same thing when it happens again.
Losing Allie was a consequence of my decision I wasn’t ready to live with. I fell asleep thinking about her which wasn’t a surprise.
The next morning, I woke up with an arm wrapped around me. Only one person would enter my place like this. As much as Laura was my mate, I realized now, that I felt more sparks with Allie than I did with her.
“You knew this and still let her go.” Kaid said, and I wanted to remind him that he didn’t try to stop but it was useless arguing with him…something that has become a regular occurrence between us.
Moving away from her reach, I stood up from the bed, my movement causing her to open her eyes. She sat upright, a frown appearing on her face.
“Come back to bed,” she whined, “I’m still sleepy p>
I ignored that, “What are you doing here?” I asked her instead.
She shrugged, “I came to see Luna. She’s really disappointed, you know. But once everything falls into place, she wouldn’t have anything to worry about p>
“You know that’s not what I’m talking about p>
“My wolf has been nagging me, she wanted to see you, so I thought to come over since I was already here.” She said, like it was no big deal.
It hurts that I was only needed when her wolf needed some sort of recharge. It was always going to be like this.
“Leave.” I told her, and her head jerked upward to meet my gaze. Her eyes widened at my request…I also avoided looking directly at her before I would change my mind.
“You’re not serious p>
“I mean it, Laura. Leave.” I repeated.
“You can’t seriously be asking me to leave. Is this you throwing a tantrum?” She asked, her voice becoming louder. I have never been more grateful that I didn’t move into the pack house completely.
“Call it whatever you want to, as long as it’d get you to leave p>
Kaid was silent, observing what was happening. He’d long blocked her wolf out, so it was left to me to deal with her.
While she took in my words, I walked to my closet to pick out my clothes and then went towards the bathroom but I stopped in my tracks when she spoke again.
“Is this because of Allison?” She asked.
I froze as I turned to face her, “this is not about anyone, Laura.” I didn’t even want
to ask how she knew about that considering we were careful about it.
“This is about you.” Now, I was equally raising my voice at her, a look of surprise was written all over her face. “I’m your mate, not someone you come to just because your wolf misses mine p>
She scoffed, “what does that
matter? Do you expect me to stoop low because you’re my mate?” She asked. “I spent my entire life training to become a Luna, you think I’m
going to throw all that awase
you’re my mate p>
I just stared at her, each word that came from her mouth…even though I’ve heard them before, felt like poison to me.
Now, I wasn’t sure why I was ever excited to meet my mate. Why I spent years being so cautious of relationships because I was waiting for her. All of them seem like a waste of time hearing her talk.
“I’m going to become the Luna I spent my life preparing to be. If you really wanted me to be yours completely, you should’ve come as an Alpha.” She finished, panting heavily.
It was my turn to scoff, “it’s always going to be about power, isn’t it?” I asked, my hand tightening around the clothes I was holding.
She stood up from the bed, taking slow strides towards me. Her hand lifted my chin to meet her eyes, sending shivers down my spine which I ignored.
“Of course darling,” she laughed. “You want me to believe that you like Allison because she’s a girl…I’ll give her that she’s pretty p>
Anger welled up within that she
would insinuate that I was with Allie because she was a Lycan and the Alpha’s sister… I did see her as
Alpha’s sister but only because he would offer me my head on a platter of gold. But it was never about her family.
“I can see the look in your eyes, you better end it. She’s going to mate with the Alpha of Blackwood and have his heirs…poor thing, her mate is probably somewhere with another woman, starting a family p>
At the mention of Allie mating with Blackwood’s Alpha, King let out a loud growl.
And I couldn’t help but think if it was the reason she was going to let Dylan mark
her.
I needed to stop her, she was mine!
“Where did you hear that?” I asked Laura, struggling to keep my anger down, “and don’t even think about lying to me p>
“Her mom, of course. So, better
forget about ever having her.” She
said,
“this is is as close as you can get to having a mate, so deal with it p>
She continued, moving closer to me
to kiss me, but my hand held her
BUMS
back.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” She growled, glaring at me. “Nothing,” I replied, offering her a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. “I’ve never been more alright p>
“What are you talking about?” She asked again, but I ignored her. Instead I did something I promised myself would never do.
“I, Ryder Nightwalker p>
A panicked look crossed her face, “what do you think you’re going?” She asked,
her hand dropping from my face.
“Something I should’ve done a long time ago p>
“I, Ryder Nightwalker, reject you, Laura Zane, as my mate.” I finished as pain shot right through me.
