Chapter 145
Kieran’s POV
I turned back to Gerald, now, even more determined as I couldn’t wait to find out what Kaia wanted to tell me. “I’m listening.” I said, referring to the question I asked him.
“All I know is that the Alpha of their Pack knew something he shouldn’t and in order to silence him, rogues were sent to their Pack, catching them unaware.” He said, “but I had nothing to do with it.” He insisted.
“By their Alpha, you mean Alpha Marcus?” Caleb asked. My brows furrowed, everyone knew he was the Alpha and there was no need dwelling on that.
But Gerald shook his head, “Alpha Marcus is the twin brother of the real Alpha.” He said, “Alpha Matthew is the elder twin which makes him the rightful heir to the throne p>
I messaged my temple gently, if this was true, we were years away from finding Kaia’s biological parents. I wanted to ask how he knew all of this, something even my Dad as an Alpha didn’t know…or probably because I didn’t ask.
Caleb had suddenly gone silent, like he was recalling something. That wasn’t new, as my Beta, he had gone through as many records as me, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he had seen something related to that and was trying to remember where.
Now, to the most important question, because now that we have a little bit of concrete information, it shouldn’t be hard to actually find something that would be useful.
“Where’s Felix and your mate p>
His head, which had been done all the while when he spoke, suddenly jerked upward, his eyes widening. “I don’t know where she is p>
King let out a growl, not pleased with the answer, “You better not fucking lie to me!” He said, coming to the surface.
“I-I s-swear, I don’t know p>
About an hour later, we were done with him, the guilt on his face when he realized he had spilled his guts was oddly satisfying. I ordered the guards to inform me if anyone even attempted to come close…especially in the guise of what happened the last time.
The next place I went to was my mom’s cell. She was a shadow of the powerful woman I used to know. She now looked unkempt and lean, her eyes which used to hold authority, were empty…dead.
“She hasn’t spoken a word since we kept her here.” Caleb said, “I doubt we would be able to get anything out of her when she’s like this.” He added.
Upon seeing me, she didn’t even move to say anything. Since she was brought in, this would be the first time I was coming to see her…and I’m wasn’t sure I felt bad about it…maybe pity, but that was about that.
We went back to the office, where I mind-linked Ryder, who was on patrol duty. “Alpha,” he called.
“Mobilize the warriors to search the abandoned buildings and cabins, outside the southern border.” I ordered, “I need the report today p>
“Yes, Alpha p>
Without asking questions, he left, leaving myself and Caleb alone. He still had a lost look on his face causing me to raise my brows. “What’s going on?” I asked him.
“I don’t know, I just feel this uneasiness within me but-” He was cut midway when the door swung open, revealing a frowning Kaia, her arms crossed in front of her, resting on her protruding belly.
“Fuck!” I groaned, standing up to meet her. “I’m so sorry, Bella. I was going to round up here and then come to you, so I wouldn’t be distracted when I’m with you p>
She pouted her lips and fuck did she look adorable! “I was going to tell you then, but I don’t think it matters anymore p>
Only when the door closes, did I realize Caleb had excused us. But I made a mental note to ask him what he meant by uneasiness, if it was something I needed to worry about as well.
“I’m sorry, Bella.” I apologized, “I’ll make it up to you.” I assured her.
“Our child…children moved for the first time time.” She told me, beaming.
My eyes darted to her stomach and then to her and my smile widened to match hers. “That’s fuc…great! I can’t believe I missed it p>
“This is your fault!” King complained, and I rolled my eyes, of course he’d blame me…I mean, I blamed me too, but that wasn’t the point.
The disappointment didn’t last long as she spoke again. “It’s happening again!” She announced, placing her hand on her stomach. “Do you want to feel it p>
I nodded excitedly. I knelt in front of
her, placing my hand on her stomach. And almost immediately felt smalt movements in an irregular pattern. My gaze met hers, which was filled with tears and I felta wave of panic hit me.
“Are you okay? Does it hurt?” My voice was soft.
King snorted, “those are tears of joy, you idiot. Do you even know anything?” He asked.
Kaia shook her head, “I’m just really happy.” She cried. “I’m going to be a mom and it feels even more so now p>
“And you’re going to be the best mother our children can ask for p>
“You think so?” She asked, her eyes widening, staring at me intently, if she opens
her eyes any wider, I’m certain she would be reading my thoughts.
I shook my head and her face fell. don’t think so because I know so Bella. Ve seen you with the kids at the childcare, they all love you. Our children will not be an exception p>
There was no way they were not going to love her. They were not going to be any different from me who fell in love with her the first time I laid eyes on her.
“I love you.” She said, and I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
“I love you, Bella.” I replied, but even that didn’t seem to do justice to how I felt about her.
She might not know this, but she
saved me even before I knew I
needed saving. And she was…is the reason wanted to be a better man and a even better father. To give them everything both of us might’ve lacked while growing up.
I wrapped my arms around her from the back, my hand resting on her stomach. Although they had stopped moving now, it still felt too good to be true sometimes. Her hand rested on mine.
“How’s it going on with Gerald? D-Did he really k-kill t-them?” She asked, and the air in the room thickened.
“He didn’t.” I told her, “but we’re going to find out what happened p>
She was silent for a moment, “What if they’re alive somewhere, do you think they’ll look for me p>
I didn’t want to give her false hope. The possibility of them being alive was slim. “If they’re alive, I’m sure they’re looking for you p>
She nodded, “I wonder what they were like. If my life would be different if they didn’t give me away.” She asked. “But I can’t help thinking why they chose that Pack p>
“What’s wrong?” I asked, when she stopped talking.
“Dylan wants to know if I’m with you…he found something.” She said.
I guess he was ready to move on.
