Chapter 12
Kaia’s POV
I sat up disoriented, “What happened?” I thought, trying to place the pieces of what I know together. I didn’t remember putting on my clothes and the last thing I remembered was being in the bathroom.
“Our mate found us and helped us.” My wolf said, her voice echoing in my mind.
When she said this, a quick image of me gripping onto his hand flashed through my mind. Thinking hard, I could hear his voice telling me something but what he was saying wasn’t clear enough.
“Did he change me?” I thought, looking away shyly. “I mean he’s my mate, he’s bound to do that one day p>
“I’m glad we both agree on something.” She replied.
I rolled my eyes, it was obvious she was in a mood this morning, and I wondered why that is.
I was feeling a lot better after sleeping it off, but I should probably ask Kieran if I can get drugs for it just in case it happens again.
“How come you don’t have a name?” I asked my wolf suddenly, remembering my conversation with Dani. She did say that was the first thing she was supposed to tell me. But I guess mine was different since I didn’t exactly shift into my wolf form.
“I do have a name, you didn’t ask p>
My face fell, feeling a pang of embarrassment, “I didn’t know. I just assumed you didn’t. Nobody told me anything p>
“It’s okay Kaia, I was suppressed, only coming out when I could.” She explained and a puzzled expression appeared on my face but she continued before I could ask. “My name is Lylah p>
I smiled, “Lylah is such a beautiful name p>
“Just like my human. I just wish you would see that and allow yourself to be taken care of without being scared of something going wrong p>
“I’m just trying to protect us.” My voice was low, like if I spoke too loud, it was going to break.
“Do you ever think that while you are doing that, you’re actually denying us a chance at being happy? You’re never going to find out if you keep pushing our mate away p>
I fell quiet, taking in what Lylah said. It brought back most of what actually happened the previous night. This was the exact thing I was thinking about when my attack started. I also remembered Kieran wrapping his arms around me.
I paused, when her words sank in. “Suppressed?” I yelled. “Why would I do that?
I’ve always wanted to get my wolf. Besides, how is that done p>
The door creaked open, revealing Kieran. He was holding a tray I guess contained food.
“Oh good, you’re up already.” He said, coming over to the bed and placing the food in front of me.
My stomach growled at the sight of the food. The tray contained toast bread, eggs, bacon and tea, that was enough to feed five people.
“Than I trailed off, when I saw his raised brow.
“I’ll leave you to eat. I’ll come back when you’re done.” He said, turning to leave and I felt a pang of disappointment.
“Don’t go…please.” I begged, stopping him in his tracks. He turned quickly as if he was waiting for me to stop him.
He sat opposite me on the bed, filling my plate with food before pushing it towards me and nodded for me to start eating which I did, moaning softly from how good it
was.
“It’s really good p>
He nodded, smiling. “I know. I think I’m going to grow fat if it goes on like this.” He said, and a chuckle left my lips.
“I don’t think that’s possible, you’re so fit. It’s going to take more than a few of these to make you fat.” I thought.
But a smile appeared on his face. I don’t think he’d smiled this hard in front of me before and it was beautiful.
“I guess I can eat more then, since I’m still so fit p>
And I froze, using one hand to cover my face. “You were not supposed to hear that.” I murmured.
“I know. But I’m glad I did p>
The next few minutes, we devoured the food like hungry wolves. No one was talking but it was a comfortable silence.
Once we were done, he stood up, carrying the tray, “Are you going to freshen up now? I can take you to meet Dani and but I interrupted before he went any further.
“I don’t remember everything from last night clearly, but thank you for helping me out p>
“Dani changed you, if that’s what you are worried about.” And I frowned.
“N-no, I wasn’t worried about that p>
It wasn’t a lie, and I was more disappointed that he didn’t. No doubt something was clearly wrong with me.
“I had my first panic attack when I was seven.” I started, playing around with my fingers to avoid looking at him. The tray he was holding was soon sitting on the floor as he took my hand in his.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he assured me softly. “I’m going to wait until ready p>
I was ready. “My mom had just died and I found her first.” I continued. His hand caressed mine as he paid attention to what I was saying.
“She loved me, but she didn’t stay and every time I think about that day, I start to panic. When it became worse, my stepmom took me to the pack doctor who gave me some medicine and I’ve been using it since then p>
He nodded supportively, “did you use it last night p>
I shook my head, “I didn’t bring any. I left my pack in a hurry p>
He sighed deeply, “don’t worry about it. I’ll let the pack doctor take a look at you later.” I nodded.
“Thank you for telling me, I was worried. But I’m glad you’re okay. And I’m sure your mom is watching over you from above p>
I didn’t realize I was crying until he wiped my tears away with his thumb. “You grew up well, I’m sure she’s so proud of you.” he assured me, his hand caressing my face softly, sending shivers down my spines.
“You don’t hate me?” I asked suddenly and his hand paused, putting a stop in his action.
He raised my head up to look at him, confusion etched on his face. “Why would I hate you? If anything, I hated not finding you earlier p>
I sighed, attempting to look away, but his hand kept my head in place, his eyes
begging to be read. To see his sincerity. “I’m not strong.” I told him.
“I don’t need you to be. I just want you, the way you are. I’m strong enough for the both of us p>
“I can’t shift into my wolf. She’s there, but I can’t transform into her p>
“None of that matters, once you’re strong enough, she’ll be out and you’ll be begging her to let you come back p>
A small smile broke out on my face. “Nothing you say is going to make me change
my mind about you. Get that straight. I’m going to wait for as long as you’re
ready p>
“Hopefully not that long, I don’t think I’m going to survive not knowing what our mate tastes like.” Lylah said and I blocked her out of my thoughts before she put ideas in my head.
“U-uhm…okay p>
“I’m going to come back once you’re done.” he said and I nodded, pushing myself up from the bed. Kieran held my hand to help me up.
“Thank you.” I told him, a smile on his face. Still thinking about how he was smiling a lot today and it was still morning, I felt his lips brushed against my forehead, sending a shiver down my spine. I stiffened, caught off guard by the gentle gesture.
“Sorry,” he murmured, his eyes filled with concern.
I relaxed, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. “It’s okay,” I assured him, my voice soft and reassuring. “I was just distracted p>
He nodded, before repeating himself about coming back to get me. Then he left, leaving me in the same spot as my hand immediately touched my forehead, as I fought back a smile.
“If things continued like this, I doubt he would have to wait too long p>
Yep, something was definitely wrong with my brain.
