Chapter 39

Kaia’s pov.

I froze in my spot, watching as she came closer to me. She couldn’t have let me end this already perfect date well.

For very obvious reasons, I avoided running into her as much as possible. Kieran said she would be leaving soon but he wasn’t sure either. A part…all part of me was looking forward to that.

“Why was she even in the pack house at this time?” I thought.

I turned to see if Kieran was nearby but there was no such luck.

Soon, she stood in front of me and stared me down with her nose in the air as if I was merely dirt she could crush under her heels.

“Ma-” I begin but she cut me off with a raise of her left palm, easily silencing me.

“I was Luna of this pack once, you’ll address me as such, you wolfless creature” She yelled, her eyes turning black but they returned to their original color almost immediately.

I wanted to tell her I had a wolf but couldn’t shift but I doubt that would make any difference.

“You should never be here, you’re not good for my son, not good for anyone who has a sense at all, you’re nothing p>

“But lu-” I tried, my face tightening with pain clear in my eyes and voice.

“Do not interrupt me you worthless piece of shit, a rogue like you thinking you can charm my son and warm your useless way into the Luna position” She said, steam coming out of her ears.

I shook my head, I wasn’t warming my way anywhere if I was his mate.

“You can’t come into this pack and think you can bed your way to the top, you are even less than an omega” she took in a breath before she continued.

“What right do you think you have to try and taint my bloodline? I worked hard to bring my family to this point and I won’t let she paused, eyeing me from head to toe. “you ruin it.” She hissed.

“I’m-i’m his mate,” I stammered, feeling the urge to remind her that the moon goddess did this and I was going along with it.

The excitement I felt from the date had quickly drained out as I listened to her. My words failed me, nothing came out of my mouth.

She scoffed, “So weak!” She spat. “you are the complete embodiment of weakness and shouldn’t even be here,. You don’t belong here p>

What was I expecting? That she would apologize for what she said before? Not really but this was harsh.

I felt pains all over my body as her words seemed to sink into the very core of my being.

“Let’s leave” Lylah’s voice came out very small and weak and I hated it.

Even my wolf lyylah was feeling the pain that Kieran’s mom was causing us both. And she was usually the strong one of both of us.

She made me feel so less of myself, and the worst part was that she was right.

I was weak! I tried to move.

“Where do you think you’re going you little bitch, I’m not done with you yet” She grabbed my arm tight and I cried out in pains as her nails dug into my skin.

She quickly took them off when I cried out in pains and dusted them with a small towel as though touching me was like touching dirt and I felt my heart break.

With tears streaming down my face, pain shot through my entire body. I tried to move past her again, but she blocked me. She. Clearly wasn’t done.

“I know you don’t like me. I’m trying so hard to not think about it, but it’s not my fault. Kieran is my mate. He has feelings for me, and I feel the same way about him. It’s destiny I tried my best to explain to her, but she scoffed.

“Feelings? Those would go away soon p>

I shook my head, “No, no!” I screamed. My hands were shaking. My body was trembling.

“Listen, the only thing I need from you now is for you to understand one thing. My son is never going to make you Luna. I don’t need weak heirs.” She spat

But when I didn’t say a word, it angered her. she grabbed my hand and pulled me closer.

“If you know you want to keep living here, and you don’t want to get hurt, you better stay away from my son. Talking to you too much means you’re stupid, and this pack doesn’t need that.” She sinked her fingers into my hands.

I winced in pain, and only then did she push me away from her, giving me one last glare before she walked away.

“Kaia Layla tried to call my attention, but I sniffed. My eyes were clouded by tears, my lips pressed as I bit into them to hide the pain I was feeling.

“I thought she would change her mind once she meets me…I think she hated me more.” I cried.

“Don’t pay attention to her, and Kieran would fix Lylah started but I cut her off. “He won’t know about this.” I warned, as I dragged myself to the room

I sluggishly tried to open the door, dragging my feet through the room. My bed called to me, and my pillows were ready to dry up the tears I was trying to hold back.

Without thinking, I shut the door, and rushed to the bed, allowing my body to sink in, I pulled the pillow over my head.

And soon, I was sobbing like my life depended on it. Tears streamed down my eyes, and when it became extremely hard to breath, I pulled away from the pillow.

I didn’t need to see myself before I know I was a mess. I tired the dress away from my skin and got into the shower.

“Did I let my guards down too fast p>

Lylah shook her head, “You didn’t, his mom is being a witch. Keep your head and show her that you’re fit for that position p>

I scoffed, “like it would change anything p>

Once I was done in the shower, I tied a towel around my waist and went straight

to bed. And not long after, Kieran knocked on the door but I ignored it.

“Bella,” his voice came through our mindlink. “are you sleeping?” He asked.

I ignored him as the knocking became louder.

“Can you leave me alone this night?” I asked.

“Is something wrong? Talk to me, what’s going on?” He asked, just before I blocked him.

I must’ve slept off from crying, because the next time I opened my eyes, it was

already morning and someone was knocking on the door.

“Hmm?” My eyes felt sore, and my body was paining me.

“What do you want?” I asked, and Maria’s voice reached my ears.

“Breakfast is ready, the Alpha wants you to join him p>

I was hungry, but right now, I couldn’t bear to look at his face, even though it was

not his fault.

“I’m not hungry.” I lied.

“Yes Luna.” And she was gone.

For the rest of the day, I avoided running into Kieran. I went to the child care earlier than I would and Dani was shocked as well. She asked how my date went, but one look, and she changed her mind.

When the day was over, I rushed back to the room like I was stepping on hot coal and locked the door behind me. But he was already in the room, sitting on the couch and watching me go crazy.

“Did I do something wrong?” He asked, taking slow steps towards me. His expression was unreadable, but his voice breaking gave away how he was feeling.

I shook my head, as my hand turned the door knob, ready to bolt, he let out a

deep sigh.

“I’d leave.” He said. The hurt in his voice made my heart clench.

“Why do I keep doing this?” I thought as I watch him leave.
