Chapter 76
Chapter 79
Kaia’s POV
I let out another sigh for the umpteenth time that morning, causing the girls to look up at me, worry etched on their faces. They had an idea of what happened the previous day…at this point, I’m sure everyone has an idea what went down with how loud their voices were.
It felt like the walls were going to drop and I had to deal with an extremely horny wolf…she found Kieran’s authority sexy. I mean, it was but I couldn’t afford to drool when he was going at it with his dad.
His dad has to be the biggest…no, huge is the word. I wondered how he got anything in his size.
“Okay, what is it?” Allie asked, when another sigh escaped my lips.
I looked up at her, “what do I do?” I asked and a frown appeared on their faces. “Your dad was really angry yesterday. I barely got a wink of sleep no matter how hard I tried p>
“And just like I told you, there’s nothing for you to worry about.” Allie started, placing both hands on my shouldes. “That was just two men defending their women p>
Dani nodded, “and no offense to your mom, but how does your dad handle her p>
Allie just shrugged, “she’s his everything. Trust me, even I can’t help that thought sometimes but I’ve come to accept the fact that nothing can be done to help it p>
I nodded absent-mindedly. I had at least hoped that Allie was right and their dad was easy to get along with, but after last night, I changed my mind.
“I hope my mate is like Alpha Kieran,” Nessa said, her eyes turning into the shape of a heart…not literally. And I’d totally forgotten that she now joins us whenever she could, to help.
Nodding softly, I assured her that once she finds her mate, she would be the most precious thing to him and would stand with her against all odds. And I could tell my answer pleased her because she wouldn’t stop smiling widely.
Hopefully she doesn’t meet an Aiden first.
“Are they going back anytime soon?” Dani asked.
Allie shook her head, “my dad is still furious and thinks Kieran is neglecting his duties as Alpha. So they’re setting down in their house not too far from the pack house.
Kieran was definitely not neglecting anything…he spent several nights going over reports to see if he was missing something.
“They better leave soon.” I thought, “if all they were going to do was the opposite of being helpful, they’d better go back to where they came from p>
We went back to focusing on the kids, whose size had grown to almost double of what they use to be. My attention kept slipping to what Kieran was doing at the moment and if he was okay. I couldn’t feel any of his emotions, so my best guess was that he blocked me from that and if his end goal was that he didn’t want me to get worried, then it was doing the opposite.
“How’s Dylan doing?” Allie asked, her voice trying to sound dismissive but she wasn’t fooling anyone. And I was relieved at the change of subject.
“He’s the same as when you saw him last p>
She let out a groan, “I embarrassed myself, didn’t I?” She asked.
Dani laughed, “that had to be the most embarrassing thing you’ve done. And that’s saying something.” She said.
“She’s joking, it’s not that bad.” I told her, “but I’d very much like his head to remain on his neck. Thank you very much p>
Confusion appeared on her face, “what are you talking about? I mean, he’s handsome…yes, Kieran wouldn’t like it but that doesn’t mean p>
I snorted, “who is talking about Kieran? I meant Ryder. He looked like he wanted
to rip his head off and that would happen even sooner if he catches you drooling over him one more time p>
Allie shrugged, “it’s not like he’s my mate, and what I do is none of his business.” She said, covering her face that was beginning to turn pink.
“Keep telling yourself that until you believe it.” Dani chimed in, before walking off towards the child who was screaming his lungs out.
“She’s right. And I probably should go check on him, he’ll be bored out of his life.” I said, standing up from the couch, and carefully laying the child I had in my arms down.
It’s a miracle she slept through all the talking.
“I can come with you,” Allie said, “to make sure you’re safe and all.” She quickly added and Nessa also volunteered to tag along but I shook my head.
“Why don’t you teach Nessa your methods on how to take care of a crying child p>
She grumbled about how I was being overprotective of my brother when she’d being nothing but generous with hers. I wanted to remind her that we were mates but changed my mind, assuring her that she’d survive without him.
I made my way to Dylan’s room, responding to the greetings of pack members, who were either returning from training or running an errand. They were in group just like Kieran ordered.
But on getting to the room, he was nowhere to be found and neither were the warriors who were assigned to guard him.
A loud gasp escaped me, “did he kill them and escape? Was Kieran right?” I asked myself, panic setting in.
“If he escaped, does that mean everything he told me was a lie?” I thought. “did I fall for his trap p>
I was close to having a full breakdown when I asked his voice, “You should freak out a little bit quietly. I could hear you thought from a mile away.” He said.
“Where were you? I thought you escaped.” I asked after a while of calming my racing heart.
“Due to the goodness of my heart he started, and I snorted. This was a side of him that I never saw but was slowly getting used to. He always wore a stern look when talking to me but on one or two occasions, I’d seen him crack a smile when he was in the company of his friends.
“Alpha Kieran is allowing me move around the pack…with these two, but I tell you, I’d rather stay indoor.” He finished.
I rolled my eyes and turned to the warriors, “I’ll take it from here.” I told them, my command tone slipping out. And without a word, they bowed and left us alone. “That’s going to take some getting used to.” Dylan said.
I took him around the pack-majorly around the pack house, making sure not to go anywhere close to where Allie was.
“So I noticed the extra security measures, still no clue about what you’re dealing with?” He asked.
Shaking my head, “yes. And the more time is wasted, more people are dying p>
“Apart from me, there’s no other suspect p>
I nodded, “it’s hard considering how they’re able to hide their smell. And they don’t leave anything behind that could be useful p>
“That’s the point of being unidentified…not leaving clues p>
My head jerked to look at him, shooting glares at him. And his hands went up in surrender. He was the same thing as them except that he got caught.
“Wait…how did you get caught again?” I asked. The only thing I knew about when he was caught was that he was badly injured.
“Don’t remind me.” He murmured, “not my proudest moment p>
I ignored that, “tell me.” I commanded.
“The only thing that could break the witch spell was ironbloom and wolfsbane. And somehow I managed to walk into that p>
“That could work.” Lylah said.
“Follow me.” I told him and I saw his brow furrow. “We’re going to see my mate p>
“I don’t think I like the sound of that.” He murmured.
“Too bad, I’m not giving you an option.” I told him as I led the way to Kieran’s office.
