Chapter 84
Chapter 87
Kaia’s POV
Just like Kieran commanded, I asked Dylan to send Nessa back home and then with Ryder’s help, we led Dani to the room. She was also hysterical now, especially since she couldn’t reach Caleb or his wolf. Her own wolf was pushing to come out, nothing we said or did helped matters.
Kieran didn’t say where he was apart from the fact that he was close.
“What do we do, Luna?” Allie asked. She only calls me that, when she’s lost at what to do. “She’s getting worse.” She pointed out.
I took another look at her, I was just as confused as they were. And her wolf was in so much pain, reminding me of Lylah when it was our mate in the same situation.
I bent down to meet her eyes, “Dani, look at me?” I commanded softly, using my tone that even her wolf couldn’t refuse. And her gaze finally met mine.
“Caleb is going to be just, okay!” I assured her.
She shook her head, “I can’t feel him or his wolf, Luna.” She cried.
“He’s trying to conserve his energy and Kieran is bringing him. So I’m sure they’ll be here any minute I paused at the commotion at the door as Kieran’s smell filled my nostrils.
Ryder swung the door open and there they were, Caleb in Kieran’s arms, covered in his own blood, which was dripping everywhere. Dylan also stood behind them, his expression the same as everyone else…fear, worry.
Dani rushed to him, her hand trembling as she repeatedly called his name. Despite her struggling to stay by his side, the guys gently pulled her away. It was the first time Dylan and Ryder worked together instead of being at each other’s throats.
Caleb was placed on the bed, and he was barely breathing and from the time that he was shot till now, it hadn’t been that long but the damage was not surprisingly worse than Kieran’s own.
His wound was on his upper chest, but it was quickly expanding to the rest of his body and even his arms. From just looking at it, I could already tell that it was going to be draining.
But Caleb has to live, no matter what.
“You’ve got this, Bella.” Kieran’s voice rang in my head, and without looking at him, I nodded. Each second was crucial now if we wanted to save him.
I let Dani hold him as I placed my hand over his wound just like other times.
“You’re doing well.” Lylah said, trying to encourage me and it was working.
I nodded, doing exactly what she’d taught me. An image of me healing him filled my head and the familiar surge of energy, something I was getting used to, reached my hands, the glow covering the part of his body that was injured.
This went on for a while, considering the extent of his wound. It felt like it was just the both of us in the room now and his groaning as his wound began to close and his skin knit back together, reached my ears but I couldn’t stop.
After a while, I felt my body weakened and Lylah took over, using her own strength and just when I felt her slipping away, a loud gasp filled the room, and a peace I couldn’t explain settled within me.
“You did it, Bella.” Kieran said, his voice sounding distant but the relief in them was very evident.
It was his best friend we were talking about here.
“Are you okay?” He asked me, when I didn’t say anything.
I nodded, but that was a lie because the next minute I was falling into his open
arms.
Yea, I still needed more training.
The ray of sunlight on my face woke me and no doubt it was morning already. I had slept through the night, but I couldn’t deny that it was much needed, having drained the last of my energy the night before.
“Sleeping beauty is up.” Lylah teased, and I snorted before leaning into Kieran who was still deeply asleep.
“He came in not quite long.” She told me. The dark circles around his eyes told me what I needed to know.
As gently as I could, I stood up from the bed and went to the bathroom to take my bath, before going to check on Caleb.
Dani threw herself into my arms the moment she saw me, telling me thank you over and over again. She wouldn’t let me go even after assuring that it was okay and that she was my best friend. I definitely wasn’t going to let her mate die when I could do something about it.
Caleb was still very much asleep, so I couldn’t check up on him. But Dani told me that it hadn’t been long since he fell asleep.
When she finally let go of me, I excused myself to the kitchen to find something to eat but stopped right in my tracks when I saw Maria arguing with another girl, although they were whispering, I’m sure anyone within a hearing range or paid attention could hear them.
“Is something wrong?” I asked, moving closer to where they were standing.
They looked at each other and then back at me before shaking their heads. “No, Luna. We’re sorry.” Maria said, shooting the girl another glare.
“That’s okay I replied and continued my journey to the kitchen, quickly pushing the argument to one side. They would soon forget what they were fighting about in no time.
Deciding to go with something light, I made pancakes, refusing help from Nora and the other girls who offered to help. I made just enough for myself and Kieran before heading back to the room.
Everything seems normal, pack members going on with their usual activities. I’m sure if what happened the previous day was let out, it would be a different story.
I smiled, I think I finally found my place, what I was meant to do.
“We shouldn’t be up right now,” Lylah complained, “King misses us, and I’d rather be in his arms than worry about pack members…that can wait p>
“And I’m sure he’d appreciate a proper meal once he wakes up, after being away.” I replied, rolling my eyes.
She sighed, “you’re right p>
Kieran was up once we got to the room and I frowned. It hasn’t been up to two hours since I stood up beside him.
“You should still be sleeping p>
He offered me a small smile, “I’m okay, Bella.” He said and my frown deepened. He ignored it, collected the tray containing the food from my hand and then pulled me into his arms, resting his head on my shoulder.
“I nearly lost Caleb p>
“But you didn’t. It was a close call, yes, but you brought him just in time and he’s fine p>
He took a deep breath, “I’m going to get real busy, Bella.” He started and I nodded. “They knew where we were, they had more people on the inside than we thought p>
I nodded again, their mission to the forest was supposed to be a secret.
“They will not get away with this.” He said, and I knew things were about to get serious.
Maybe more serious than I thought.
