Chapter 49
Kieran’s POV
Being away from Kaia was killing me, I missed everything about her even though I got to see her at night. But something felt off last night, she’d even blocked me out of her thoughts, confirming my fears.
The meeting I was having with the elder turned out to be completely different from what I planned for.
Turns out Ida’s father was connected to one of the elders and he called in a favor. But I already expected that. But showing up and seeing my mother, who I thought had given up seated there, was unexpected and disappointing.
“And Alpha,” Caleb called, and my head jerked upward.
We were waiting for the meeting to start, but the dickheads were taking their sweet time. I was so close to dragging their asses out of their inner chambers and shoving my decision down their throats.
“I forgot to mention, there’s something about the Luna that doesn’t add up p>
I raised my brow, “did he also notice it?” I thought, but that didn’t make sense since he’d not seen her for the past few days.
My curiosity piqued, “what is it p>
“Luna said she was an omega right?” He asked, “but that day outside your office, I could swear she used a tone just like your Alpha command and both Ryder and I couldn’t refuse p>
I smiled, “that’s my girl p>
“Not the reaction I was going for, but that works too.” Caleb said. “What do you think about it p>
I shrugged, “it’s expected, she’s wearing my mark. She would also possess almost the same authority I have p>
He didn’t look convinced, but before he could voice it out, someone came in that the meeting was starting immediately, but I made a mental note to ask him about it when we were done.
We followed the secretary, who led us to where the meeting was going to be held. As we entered the room, whatever conversation they were having ceased as their eyes turned to us.
The room was brightly lit, as sunlight streamed in through the large window. The air was thick and it smelled of old wood which made sense since the building has been in existence for many years.
The Elders were seated around a large table, and my mom was at the head of the table, my eyes not leaving mine. Their expressions didn’t give anything away and I didn’t bother trying to guess.
I took my seat at the table and Caleb sat beside me.
“The meeting is starting now,” one of the Elders announced, and all of them sat upright. I heard King snicker.
They were acting like I would blindly follow whatever decision they made. This was supposed to be that last meeting after going at it for more than a week.
It first started with ‘unfair’ punishment of a pack member. And then my Luna being too unfit to rule the pack. And I spent more time trying to keep King in place than in the actual meeting.
“This court has decided that Kaia Riven is unfit and henceforth, Laura Zane will now be recognized as the Luna of the Moonstone Pack.” He announced, hitting the gravel.
My mom’s smile widened, as she clapped loudly. “You have made the right decision, the Pack will become even better in the future under her reign p>
King growled loudly in my head, “who do they think they are to decide that? Let me out so I can teach them a lesson.” He commanded.
“Based on what grounds is she considered unfit?” I started, my voice sounding calm.
They looked at each other, and then back at me. “You clearly don’t respect us ” The spat.
“She’s an omega and a rogue p>
My hand banged on the table loudly, causing all of them except Caleb to jump. My eyes darkened and my fangs extended, sharp and menacing. A low growl rumbled
in my throat, and I could sense King rising to the surface.
“Call my mate names again and I’ll make sure you regret it p>
His eyes widened, his face dropping but was quickly back on. “We’re not scared
of you.” He didn’t sound as confident as he did earlier.
My lips curved into a smirk, “is that so? Then maybe you should p>
He sat down. There was silence for a few minutes before another person decided to take up from where he stopped.
“The law says that no ome…no…umm.” He stammered, clearly his throat when his gaze met my eyes.
“The law states that anyone without a reputable background cannot become a Luna.” He said, and the man seated closest to my mom placed some papers on the table.
“And since when do you care about the fucking law?” I growled.
“It’s not whether we care about it or not, what’s important is that we follow it. You of all people should know this p>
“And you know the consequences of going against the law p>
“Since we’re already on the subject of law and consequences, does anyone want
to tell me funds allocated to Bloodstone Pack for the rogues attack they faced wasn’t accounted for p>
The silence was deafening, and if possible, they look like they wanted to escape. “This meeting isn’t about that,” My mom said.
Just when I thought she couldn’t disappoint me anymore, she comes up with a new method.
“She’s right,” They argued, “the most important thing at the moment is dealing with your mate p>
“You’ll be stripped of your position as the Alpha if you don’t comply p>
My mother’s head jerked towards him, failing to mark her shock, like it wasn’t a part of the conversation they had.
I laughed humorlessly, “I’d love to see you try p>
“You’re making a grave mistake, Kieran,” he spat, “we’ll be forced to take drastic measures p>
“Are they fucking threatening us?” King growled.
I wanted to end this today, if I had to spend one more day barely seeing Kaia, I wouldn’t stop King from having his way and it was going to be a bloody bath.
“Go ahead and do whatever the fuck you want,” I said, “but let me warn you, if you harm as much as one strand of hair on Kaia’s head, it might as well be your last day in this world p>
As I spoke, a sudden attempt of someone trying to mindlink me, interrupted my train of thought.
“Kieran,” Allie’s voice called, she sounded worried and I felt my chest tightened. “What’s wrong? Are you okay, is Kaia p>
“Laura was here, and I didn’t need to hear the rest of it before running out of the room. The elders could go and fuck themselves for all I care.
Caleb, who followed behind me, drove to the Pack without asking any questions.
I hope she was okay
“Please be okay!” I thought as we entered the pack.
