Chapter 106

Kaia’s POV

It took a lot of convincing for Kieran to believe that I was capable of being alone and could take care of myself. He literally followed me to the bathroom just in case I needed help there. I was enjoying it though so I let him.

But when Caleb mind-linked him to tell him something about the rogue that shot Nessa and Kieran replied that he should deal with it, I sent him away. As much as I wanted him to stay by my side, he had an obligation to fulfill. Besides, the doctor assured us that there was nothing to worry about in the first few weeks.

I pulled a shirt over my head as I got ready to meet the girls. I was going to tell them about my pregnancy and I was eager to see their reaction.

“How do you think is the best way to tell them?” I asked Lylah, but I was met with silence.

I let out a deep breath, pulling out a skirt from the closet while trying not to think about the fact that Lylah now only replies to me if it was very important. I hated how we were beginning to feel like strangers when we used to be so close.

And if I was going to do this pregnancy thing right, I needed all the support I could get, especially her.

“Are you ever going to ask the reason behind my decision before disregarding them? Or making me look bad?” Lylah asked and I paused.

“Lylah p>

“You’ve done the same thing over and over again, and then apologize when you realize I was right.” She continued, interrupting me. Her voice sounded broken, and it felt like a blow to my chest.

I opened my mouth to say something but closed it when I realized the only thing that came to mind was apologizing again.

“But I was also wrong she spoke again, this time catching me by surprise since that was the last thing I was expecting her to say.

“It’s not your fault, Lylah.” I started. “I put our pup in danger. I’m sorry.” And this time around, coming to a resolve to never go against her. She was a part of me, and everything she does, was for our good.

We went back and forth apologizing to each other and finally talking to her again felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. She said she understood the place I was coming from but it would’ve been easier if we had explained ourselves.

“Dani is going to be more excited.” Lylah said a few minutes later as we went towards the child care.

A permanent smile was etched on my face as we went. Hearing Lylah’s voice where she wasn’t mad at me felt good again.

“I think Allie is going to win this one.” I argued, and she snorted

Our debate was brought to an end when I heard Dylan’s familiar voice calling my name and I turned. I haven’t seen him since the Nessa situation and he looked like he could use some sleep.

“Dylan, are you okay p>

“I’m not,” he admitted, “but I deserve it p>

“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked. He thought about it for a few minutes before finally nodding his head.

We found a place we could talk, and he explained everything that happened with Allie and Ryder. And with each word that came out of his mouth, it was accompanied by a groan from me.

“You definitely cannot be okay.” I started and his eyes narrowed slightly.

“That doesn’t make sense p>

“Well, that is the same thing I can say about you too.” I said. “You already made her sad by telling her you were leaving…I mean, she could’ve gotten over that once she saw your point.” His frown deepened as I continued. ” Then you went ahead to make a decision for her p>

“No I didn’t p>

I sighed, shaking my head. “Are guys always this clueless?” I thought.

Dylan’s gaze met mine, waiting for me to continue. “Let me make this easy for you to understand.” I told him.

“Please p>

“Even if you think she still felt something for Ryder, it was up to her to decide if she wanted to go back to him. But now, you made it clear that it’s easy to let go of her and everything you shared…which in a way made you no different from Ryder p>

His jaw dropped faster than I could say his name. His eyes widened to almost the size of a saucer. “I-I didn’t…fuck! That wasn’t what I was trying to do.” He rushed out, his voice trembling.

“Of course not, you’re dumb, but not that dumb.” I told him.

He didn’t even react to me as he ran a hand through his hair, a groan escaping his lips. “Fuck! I knew I should’ve waited for you to come back to life p>

I paused, “I wasn’t dead, you idiot. I was resting p>

“For four days? Even when you healed Caleb, you were up the next day…and he was almost dead p>

“That’s because now I’m carrying a child stronger than I am.” I told him before I could stop myself. I bit back a groan, “the girls were going to have his head for finding out before them p>

“You’re pregnant?” He repeated.

“And now you’re deaf too.” I teased.

“That’s fucking great news, congratulations. Does Alpha Kieran know p>

I snorted, “You think I would tell you that I’m pregnant before my mate p>

“In all fairness, you blurted it out.” He said and I rolled my eyes but didn’t say anything knowing he was right. Although in this case, Kieran already knew way before I did.

He congratulated me again, hugging before leaving with the excuse of wanting to talk to Allie but I just scoffed since I would be mind-linking her to meet me here instead of going down to the child care.

“Do you ever wonder why you leave Nessa out when you have important information?” Lylah asked after I mind-linked Dani and Allie to come meet me, and when she asked if I wanted Nessa to come along and I said no.

I thought about it, “She’s young and I don’t want her getting into things that she’s not ready for.” I replied.

“Or that’s just an excuse because you don’t feel comfortable having her know the details of things you consider a secret?” She said, “even though the Pack would end up finding out about it later. You prefer she finds out then.” She said again.

Considering how this wasn’t the first time Lylah has mentioned something like this, it got me

thinking, recalling all the times I’ve done it but I didn’t see it as a big deal liked her, but this waso something I wanted to share with my girls first.

“Why do you think that is?” I asked.

“I don’t have an answer for that, it’s a question you should ask yourself.” I sensed there was something she wasn’t telling me, but the girls showing up put a pause to what I was going to say.

“Luna.” Dani called.

“My brother finally let you out of his sight?” Allie asked, coming to sit beside me, wrapping her arms around me and placing her head on my shoulder. “I missed you.” She added, more quietly.

“He has I started, grinning widely knowing what was coming next. “Being a soon to be Dad isn’t easy.” I told them and waited for their reaction.

Allie snorted, “A lot of Dads also let their ma-wait, did you say Dad?” She asked,

her arms loosening around me as her eyes widened.

I nodded, “I’m pregnant!” I finally announced.

And it was safe to say that neither Lylah nor I won as the girls erupted into loud

screaming.
