Chapter 82
Chapter 85
Kieran’s POV
If there was anything I hated more than being away from Kaia, it was waiting. The full moon was only a few hours away and we needed to get the flowers and also get on with the solution before it was over. I could’ve easily assigned it to my warriors, but I’d rather not wait a whole month for the next full moon…I did bring some of them along.
“This shit is fucking uncomfortable!” Caleb grumbled, shifting uncomfortably.
“Good thing we’re not here on a vacation, don’t you think?” I asked him, but he just ignored me and continued looking for the best way to rest his head.
The flower we wanted to get could only be found in the mystic’s glen, which was a secluded and enchanted forest where various types of flowers which would normally not grow in Packs were found and only under the full moon.
It wasn’t close to any other Pack, so we could only make do of the things we brought along but they were nowhere near comfortable.
But once we get what we came for, all of this will be over. And I would be able to sleep beside Kaia…it’s only been about two days, but to me it felt longer and even King was giving me his own shit.
“Do you think this is going to work?” I heard Caleb ask after a while.
“I didn’t spend days away from my mate for something that wouldn’t work p>
“My wolf is itching to rip off their throat, so it better works p>
I’m sure King was feeling the same way also but we first need to get information out of them before doing that.
“Listen up, everyone.” I started, my voice echoing through the cave that had become our temporary home. “We have a few hours before the moon is fully out, so get some very much needed sleep p>
“Yes, Alpha.” They chorused, and soon, the sound of their shuffling reached my
ears.
Although I didn’t feel like sleeping, I still laid my head on the bag. Several images of Kaia filled my head. What she was doing, if she missed me as much as I missed her.
Her smell was almost gone from one of my shirts which she often wore to sleep. I inhaled what was still left of her smell and I felt myself slowly drifting off to sleep, only waking up when King started pacing, struggling to come to the surface.
As I opened my eyes, the darkness of the cave had given way to the soft glow of the full moon that casted a shadow at the entrance of the cave.
Caleb and the warriors were already awake and getting ready to move. I’m sure they were also eager to get it done.
“Alright! Listen up.” My voice rang out, causing all of them to stop what they were doing to look at me. “We have gone over this several times, and I’m certain you know what to do out there p>
“Yes, Alpha p>
The flower was supposed to be a delicate one that needed to be handled with care to avoid all of its important parts falling off in the process of collecting it. All of these were things we discussed when we came here.
“We don’t have time to play around, so get to work. We’ll gather back here in two hours p>
“Yes, Alpha.” They chorused, making their way towards the light.
The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers, and the sounds of crickets, distant hooting of owls and other night insects could be heard as we went further into the forest. The rustle of leaves and the snapping of twigs beneath our feet was another sound that filled the air.
And apart from our night vision, the moon served as a source of light for us as we got to work.
More than two hours later, we had collected more than enough flowers and secured them safely. And since we needed to make the solution on time and everyone was also eager to get back to the Pack, we didn’t wait for daylight as we began our journey back.
“Ryder is one lucky bastard,” Caleb complained after a while.
“Didn’t you say he broke up with the girl he was seeing p>
“Yes, but he gets to sleep while I figure out a way to make sure everything remains intact p>
I snorted, as we continued our journey which was already taking time seeing that most of us were in our human form. Those who had shifted were far ahead and with their strength, they were probably halfway home.
“About Dylan, Alpha, do you think he’s really here just to check up on Luna?” Caleb asked again. “I mean, would he really put himself in danger and not just once, because he wanted to know if his step sister…whom he spent most of his time bullying, was okay p>
That was a question I’ve asked myself repeatedly, but Kaia seemed happy with him here and even though it might not be the best solution, I couldn’t come up with anything else.
“I don’t trust him,” I started, “hence the reason Ryder didn’t come along p>
“He’s a Beta p>
“Ryder has control over the warriors in the Pack.” I pointed out.
“Right! I just can’t shake off the feeling that something is not right about him p>
“Me and you both. But for now, all we can do is watch him closely.” I finished, and he nodded. “Do you still have eyes on his Alpha p>
“Yes. He still has no idea where Luna is.” He replied.
After Dylan’s arrival, I remembered Kaia mentioned something he said about her first mate looking for her. Since then, without her knowledge, I’ve had Caleb keep eyes on him, just in case.
“That’s fine, make I started, but trailed off when I caught sight of a suspicious movement and my eyes followed them but it was gone.
“We have company.” I announced through our mindlink and they all stood at alert, taking a position that was ready to fight.
We waited for a few minutes, but nothing came. And it felt like I’d imagined them,
but deep down I knew they were around somewhere.
“It’s them, and if they’re here, it means they also know why. And with the
substance they carry, they have an advantage p>
I paused, the best thing to do in this situation was finding a way to reach the pack without getting shot, and also making sure the flowers were also okay.
“What did we do, Alpha p>
I thought about it for a while, before having most of the flowers secured in one place and then collecting it from them and asking everyone to go in their wolf, running in a zigzag manner.
“What about you, Alpha?” Caleb asked, his eyes narrowing, like he was trying to read what was going on in my mind.
“I’m going to hold them back while you guys go p>
“I’m sorry, Alpha, there’s no way I’m leaving you here.” He said, and the warriors nodded in agreement, just as I caught another movement and this time he was pointing at us.
Everyone took cover, King was growling for me to let him out so we could finish them off once and for all, but the moment I changed into my Lycan, they were all going to shift into their wolf to fight too.
“Let’s move out at once.” I ordered and immediately, they all shifted. Holding the bag that now contained the flower with my mouth, I changed into my Lycan and
set out.
I let them run in front of me, as I kept looking around, making sure they were not
in any danger. Whoever the shooters were…I was certain they were more than one hiding somewhere in the forest, they were not as fast and definitely not as trained as the one who shot me.
We were nearing the Pack and there were no signs of th
em anywhere so we slowed down, but that was a mistake on its own, as loud painful groans filled my ears
