Chapter 10

Kaia’s POV

A man about Kieran’s height entered the room, his hair was packed in a bun and he had a smile that could light up the world. His brown eyes stayed on me for a few minutes before Dani snapped him out of it.

“Keep looking at her and soon, you’ll be missing them.” She warned.

“And it’ll be worth it.” He said, before walking towards me and stretching his hand,

“my name is Ryder, Luna.” He introduced himself.

At this point, I doubt asking them to stop calling me that would make any

difference, so I’ve accepted that.

“Kaia.” I told him, taking his hand.

“We are going to be good friends, Luna. I have so many stories to tell you about the Alpha, but only if you promise to save my head later p>

This brought a smile to my face, “I can’t promise you that.” I found myself saying.

“I’ll do it anyway.” He said, a large grin on his face.

“I really shouldn’t be here.” Dani groaned, if anything, making me more curious about him, his life before I came here.

“You can always ask our mate if you are that curious about him.” My wolf, who hasn’t spoken a word since the mall, said, but I just ignored her.

The three of us sat on the couch as Ryder began his stories about Kieran. Telling us about how mischievous they were when they were younger and if he wasn’t the gamma, I surely wouldn’t believe any of it.

“He doesn’t look like that, he looks gentle…kind of.” I said, trying to picture Kieran as the opposite of what he is now.

Ryder snorted, “you’re only saying that because he’s your mate. You’ll beg to differ when you spend more time together p>

I sighed, coming to a conclusion that either they were all naturally optimistic or there was something else going on that I didn’t know about. Apart from that, they’ve been nothing but nice to me and for a moment too, I hoped this doesn’t have to end anytime soon as well.

The door opened again, revealing Kieran and Caleb following closely behind.

He wore a confused look when he saw the three of us…his eyes focused on Ryder who was sitting close to me.

“Alpha!” Ryder called, standing up. “Since you all decided to leave me behind, I’m catching up with Luna.” He said.

Kieran looked at me, “is he disturbing you?” He asked.

Ryder gasped, placing one hand on his chest, “I’m hurt that you’ll think that.” But Kieran ignored him, his eyes not leaving mine.

So I shook my head, “he’s funny p>

Caleb snorted, before trying to cover it with a cough, earning himself a glare from Ryder but that did to stop him.

“I know you have a soft spot for me, Luna!” Ryder exclaimed excitedly, opening his arms to hug me but he soon changed his mind when Kieran growled at him. “Uhmm…got it, I’ll keep my hands to myself.” He murmured, and moved away. “Come,” he called, and I was on my feet almost immediately. “I’ll take you back to freshen up p>

I followed him closely after waving goodbye to Dani and Ryder, who was still holding a grudge for being left behind when we went to the mall.

“Would you like a tour of the pack?” Kieran asked suddenly.

“A tour of the pack?” I thought. I would love that, but only after I’d taken enough time to rest.

Once he saw the expression on my face, he quickly added that I didn’t have to. “It doesn’t have to be now,” he said. “I just want you to be comfortable p>

“Thank you,” I told him and I didn’t miss the frown that appeared on his face. He already told me that I didn’t need to thank him for anything but it is a reflex action, something that became a part of me from a young age.

“I’d love to, but maybe later p>

He nodded, a smile returning to his face as he opened the door to the room.

“I had Maria arrange all your things in your side of the closet. If you don’t like it, I can have her p>

“My side of the closet?” I asked, interrupting what he was going to say.

“Yes, I kept one side empty.” He explained, looking everywhere but at me. “I’ve always wanted to find her…you, so I was already preparing for when that time comes p>

Different thoughts went through my mind when he said this. A part of me was convinced that there was something else at play here, but the other part, which was slowly becoming the dominant part, felt like it was the moon goddess’ way of apologizing to me for all the terrible things she put me through.

“I like it.” I told him instead, referring to the arrangements of everything I now owned.

“I’ll be in my office, just in case you need anything. I’ve drawn a bath for you, so you can also rest before dinner is ready p>

He was gone before I had the chance to thank him again.

Once again, I stared at everything in the closet before picking out what I wanted

to wear when I was done in the bathroom. It was joggers and a crop top.

As I laid in the bathtub that Kieran prepared, a small smile covered my face. This was everything I wanted if I found someone who loved me for me and not because of a bond we share. But at the same time, it felt nice, being taken care of and not the other way around.

I thought about how I had cooked dinner for most of the pack members living in the pack, over a hundred of them and how some of them would still complain that they wanted something else and I had to do it if I didn’t want to go to bed with a new set of bruises.

Then how Aiden, who was supposed to be mine, watched all of this happen and did nothing to stop them. But soughts after me when everyone was sleeping.

“Am I being unfair to Kieran, who was the complete opposite of Aiden?” I thought, his disappointment when I don’t say anything flashed through my mind.

“Was I punishing him for something he didn’t do?” I asked myself and a whole lot of emotions flooded my mind.

All of a sudden, I felt my heart racing faster than normal and my chest began to hurt. I found it difficult to breathe, reminding me of a feeling I was familiar with.

I managed to tie my towel around me, as my hands began shaking and my fingers felt numb. I cursed, when I realized I didn’t have my drugs with me. It went on for

a while, but that was the last thing I remembered as I woke up on the bed several hours later with a faint calming smell that was all too familiar.
