Chapter 44

Kaia’s Pov

I smiled softly at the thought of waking up beside Kieran, but the smile was quickly wiped away from my face when instead of his warm body, I felt the empty spot beside me and I frowned.

“Where’s he?” I wondered.

For someone who threw a tantrum because I took a bath without him, he sure doesn’t learn.

“I’m at the training grounds Bella, you were sleeping so peacefully, I didn’t want to wake you up” Kieran’s voice said through our mindlink and a smile covered my face.

“Why do I forget that he could read my thoughts p>

“You should have woken me up” I argued and he chuckled lightly.

Just like him, I’ve gotten used to waking up beside him. Being with him somehow makes me forget my problems… most of the time.

“I’ll do that next time, Bella.” He assured me and I chuckled as I stood up and walked into our adjoining bathroom.

“You better.” My voice was light.

I frowned, my interaction with Laura coming to me. I didn’t mention it because it felt like there was no need to. And I haven’t learnt a lesson from the situation with his mom.

“I’ll be back later in the day, don’t miss me much” he said, and I could picture him winking at me.

“You know that’s not possible. Besides, you left before I woke up, hence no goodbye kiss.” I teased, and heard him groan.

He deserves it

“Don’t do that Bella, I really need to focus and I can’t do that if the only thing I’m doing is imagining me kissing you senseless.” My whole body flushed red and hot as he teased me back.

“Not fair” I cried out into the link and he laughed.

“You started it Bella, I’ll be back soon” He started, “I love you.” He added, before ending the mindlink

Once I was done dressing up…which didn’t take long, I left the room and began to make my way downstairs for breakfast when soft whispers filled my ears.

Just when I thought I’d put the whole conversation thing behind me. That once I took my mind off it, it would be like it never happened.

Lylah snorted, “this has become a norm, hasn’t it p>

“Yes I think so too, yesterday she answered the apologies when that girl called out to Luna” another voice chipped in, different from the first.

I never even thought about it but it seems she really did answer Luna, I felt my heart ache. I had been hurt that I didn’t even take notice of such small detail and she would have prided herself in that.

“Yes but I do think Laura seems to be more Luna than Kaia.” A different voice said and I heard hums of agreement.

Of course I knew the pack wouldn’t so easily accept me, but just like his mom, I was hoping they would change their mind. But turns out I was wrong about them too.

This was one of the reasons I never entertained the conversation of the official crowning ceremony.

“Stop listening to all this nonsense” Lylah said.

“But p>

“No buts, Kieran loves us and would do anything for us, they’re just jealous but who can blame them? Kieran is the man they all want, but cannot get…I’d be jealous too p>

“Good point” and she blocked me out as I smiled softly.

Because of Lylah making the whole situation light, I didn’t take it to heart as I entered the kitchen, sending them flying in different directions.

“Lu-luna”

They kept looking at one another and then back at me. I think they forgot they were werewolves and whispering doesn’t really work here…I learnt that the hard way.

“Is something wrong p>

“Nothing Luna.” They chorused.

“Ohkay,” I said in a chirpy tone. Ignoring the look on their faces, I got a plate for myself, filling it with pancakes that they were making.

They make mean pancakes!

Once the food was done, instead of going straight to the child care, I took a walk around the place. Then I finally went to meet the girls and they wouldn’t stop teasing me about how distracted I was and how it was easy to tell from my facial expressions that there was something on my mind.

They were not wrong and I blame Kieran. If he hadn’t teased me, creating an image in my head of what could’ve happened but didn’t.

“You started it first.?” Lylah reminded me.

“Whose side are you on, exactly?” I asked, rolling my eyes at her.

When I couldn’t handle their teasing anymore and I was certain Kieran was done

in the training ground. Smirking, I took the steps up before walking down to his office when voices stopped me at the door.

Eavesdropping seemed to be becoming my new normal and most of the time the things I hear are all bad.

“All of them are bad, don’t kid yourself” Lylah sighed out dramatically and I did a shushing motion at her as I listened in.

“Punch he-” Lylah cut off as I pushed the door open and found a shocking sight, Laura’s red strapless gown was see through, her boobs facing Kieran, her hands on his shoulders as she leaned down to him.

“Bella!” Kieran saw me first and pushed off Laura who gave me a smirk of pride as I felt hurt flash through me.

“Kieran wouldn’t do that to me.” I thought, and whatever Laura’s plan was, it was clearly working.

Lylah let out a growl at the sight in front of us. A strong wave of jealousy and possessiveness hit me.

He was mine, not hers!

“Teach her a lesson, she should keep her hands away from things that don’t belong to her.” Lylah growled. And I wanted to do exactly that but one look at Kieran’s face, I changed my mind.

I glanced up at Kieran who pushed her away from him and began with a start for me before I turned around and left the office without a word.
