Chapter 59
Chapter 61
Kaia’s POV
Kieran left in a hurry after getting a mindlink from Ryder. I didn’t have it in me to eat more, so I took the plates to the kitchen even though Nora rushed to collect them from me.
I found out from Kieran that she’d told him about my conversation with Ida.
Once that was done, I went towards the child care. I’m sure Kieran wouldn’t like it that I wasn’t resting like he wanted, but being in the room alone was boring.
“Luna!” Dani called.
“Kaia!” Allie exclaimed, coming to my side. “You should be resting. How did you convince my brother to make him agree p>
“I didn’t.” I replied, smiling sheepishly. “He went to the borders to meet Ryder and I’m bored staying alone by myself p>
They nodded, and led me to the couch so I would sit. No matter how many times I told them I was okay and Kieran was only exaggerating, they didn’t believe me. And if anything, he was the one who needed to rest more.
“The children have missed you…everyone did.” Dani said.
I didn’t have time to refute the statement when some of the children came running in, wanting to be carried which we did in turns. I couldn’t believe I was going to leave all of this behind for some reason.
Being away from the room helped me take my mind off the fact that Lylah was too weak to be present. Probably if she was, I wouldn’t have a hard time accepting the fact that I was some sort of healer.
And I think Kieran knows that too, hence why he wasn’t pushing me so hard.
“Let’s take a break now.” Allie suggested and we agreed, going to the covered pavilion, one of her favorite spots and it wasn’t hard to guess why.
The serene environment, not a lot of people go there which was good.
Dani cleared her throat, and my head jerked to her but she just shrugged. “Are you really okay now, Luna p>
“You can just call me Kaia. That makes me feel old p>
She laughed, “where’s the fun in that?” She asked, “but if it makes you feel better, I’m going to add your name to it p>
I let out a groan, “please don’t p>
They both laughed and just like Kieran, I had expected them to get mad at me instead they were concerned about my well being.
If Lylah was here, she would make a joke about how I needed to learn how to
accept love…I missed her and hopefully she comes back soon.
“I can’t reach my wolf,” I said suddenly and their heads jerked to mine.
“What? Why?” They chorused, their voice holding so much concern.
I shrugged, “Kieran says she’s recovering…and that she’d be back soon.” Taking
a deep breath, I sighed. “it’s my fault, none of them would have happened if I listened to her in the first place p>
She was my sense of reason most times, but I still found a way to go against everything she warned me about. If this was some sort of punishment from the moon goddess, then, I deserve this one.
“Why do you think it’s your fault? With everything you went through, it’s normal that your wolf needs rest.” Dani said.
I shook my head, disagreeing with her. “I could tell something was wrong on that day in the hospital but you guys wouldn’t say anything.” I started, and a pang of guilt crossed their faces.
That wasn’t my intention.
“Then I heard some nurses talking about people leaving the pack p>
Allie gasped, “that wasn’t because of you.” She said, “Kieran dislikes disloyalty, so he asked them to leave if they weren’t pleased with the way he makes decisions about his pack p>
“In a way that had something to do with me…I didn’t like that you guys were hiding things…it made it feel real.” I explained.
“We were going to tell you once you got better Dani said, “I promise. We didn’t want anything that would make you worry p>
“I know that now, I’m sorry I made you guys worry p>
They waved it one side and pulled me in for a hug…one that assured me that they were going to be there no matter what.
“Oh, and before I forget, Kieran knows that Ryder is seeing someone.” I said and Allie’s body stiffened against mine.
“He doesn’t know it’s you.” I quickly added, but the look of horror on her face didn’t change. She pulled away from the hug.
“Did I say something wrong p>
A pang of guilt hit me when I saw the tears welling up at the corner of her eyes. “Allie, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t p>
“He ended things just before the whole thing with the Elders.” She cried.
Allie and I couldn’t contain our shock, they looked good together and I even teased Ryder about it. The only reason he would’ve ended things was if he found his mate.
My gaze met hers, and she shook her head. “He said he didn’t find her…I guess he’s tired of She trailed off, unable to complete it.
“Then he’s an idiot.” Dani said, but that did nothing to soothe her.
When nothing worked, we allowed her to let everything out and just rubbed her back in a circular motion. Then I offered to help her ask him what happened but shook her head, that she didn’t want to know his reasons, especially if it wouldn’t end with them coming back together.
She stopped crying after a while and we sat in a comfortable silence.
I hope she finds her mate fast so she can move on from Ryder. But it was one topic we never touched and everyone understood not to go there unless she was ready.
“Bella?” Kieran’s voice rang in my head. He sounded out of breath a little, making my brow furrowed in confusion.
“What’s going on?” I asked, “I’m with the girls p>
“I figured.” He said, then he paused.
“Are you okay, baby?” I asked, and even without looking at him, I could tell he was smiling.
“I’m okay now.” He replied, “are you going to be done soon?” He asked.
I didn’t miss the disappointment in his voice when I told him I wasn’t sure yet. But
Allie has always been there for me and as much as I want to be with him, she also needed me.
Another reason I missed Lylah, she would’ve suggested several reasons why I should be with Kieran especially after the way he sounded.
“You should go, I’m going to be fine.” Allie said.
“It’s okay, I’ll see him later p>
She snorted, “I’m sure a part of you is already there. Go to him.” She didn’t need
to repeat herself a second time before I made my way back into the pack house. I heard the two of them laughing as I went.
Kieran was alone in his office, carried away by whatever he was thinking about. His eyes softened once they landed on me.
“Thank fuck!” He groaned, standing up to meet me and I fought back a smile.
“You said it was fine.” I accused him.
Hia arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer, “it wasn’t, I was so close to
coming to get you.” He murmured softly against my skin.
“What stopped you?” I asked. shivering as his lips kissed my mark.
“Fuck! I missed you p>
“Not more than me.” I replied, as my body came in contact with his desk.
“Impossible p>
“Then, show me.” I challenged, as he lifted me easily, placing me on his desk.
