Chapter 107
Chapter 110
Dylan’s POV
I’ve never regretted a decision so fast like I did the moment the car drove off. It took a whole lot to not turn back and take another look at her but I knew that the moment I did, this journey most likely wouldn’t be happening.
The ride was silent, I couldn’t bring myself to make small talks. And if I didn’t have bags with me, I would’ve gone back in my wolf form which was going to be faster.
Throughout the journey, all I thought of was if I was making the right decision. Even my wolf was lost in a thought of his own. I also thought about what Allie was doing, if she was crying and if she was taking my advice and sorting things out with Ryder.
Several hours later, I was jerked awake by the voice of the warrior who was driving, announcing that we had arrived.
“Thank you I trailed off, after forgetting his name which he told me at the start of the journey.
“Liam p>
“I’m sorry,” I apologized, “thank you Liam.” He nodded as he helped me with my things before driving away.
Since he had dropped me just outside the pack, there was still a small distance to cover before I get home and then to the pack house.
The warriors on patrol were the first set of people to get thrown off by my presence. Their jaws dropping and eyes widening like instead of their Beta, they were looking at a ghost.
“Beta Dylan,” they greeted after getting over their initial shock.
“How’s it going?” I asked, and my wolf chuckled lightly. “We’ve been gone for months, not days.” He reminded me like I wasn’t aware and I shrugged.
Sean, one of the high ranked warriors collected the things I was holding as we walked away towards the pack house. “You were gone for a while, Beta Dylan. The Alpha is furious.” He said.
“I had something important to deal with, I’m sure Alpha Aiden would understand p>
He went silent for a moment, his nose sniffing around and his eyes squinted as he tried to figure out the smell on me.
“Fuck! Fuck!” I groaned, I had been so engrossed in my head that it slipped my that I still smelled faintly of Kaia and Allie…he doesn’t know Allie, but if he knows Kaia’s smell he would definitely be able to tell. And she was still a member of this Pack officially.
“You smell different Sean said, a bit of accusation in his tone. “Did you find your mate and you’re hiding her away?” He asked and I released a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
“I don’t want you mateless wolves staring at my mate…she’s perfect you know.” I told him, hoping he doesn’t catch up on my uneasiness on the topic.
Before we could go any further, I stopped him, with the excuse that he needed to keep watching over the other warriors, especially those who could barely handle themselves.
Once he left, I hurried back to the house, avoiding running into anyone which was harder as people wanted to be certain they were looking at me.
“Report to my office, now!” Aiden’s voice thundered in my head.
“That doesn’t surprise me.” I thought. “I was expecting him to find out way before now p>
Ignoring him, I went straight to my place outside the pack house. And the first thing I did was get into the shower, to wash away the smell that would give away anything related to Kaia. And once I was done, I changed into fresh clothes.
Aiden’s voice came again, asking why I wasn’t standing in front of him. I knew the next thing that would happen was him using his Alpha command so I blocked him out as I made my way to the main house and to his office where I met him pacing around, the sound of his angry footsteps echoing off the wall as he went back and forth.
“You will not fucking ignore me.” He growled, “I’m your Alpha.” He said, his hand tightened around my neck. His eyes darkened.
“I’m sorry Alpha.” I apologized.
“Where were you?” He asked, his hand around my neck loosened, allowing me to breathe properly.
“My mate, I was looking for my mate.” The lie came out easier this time which was good as long as he wasn’t forcing the truth out of me.
I could easily see Alpha Kieran snapping my neck in half if I gave away her location. Kaia was lucky and she deserved to be happy after everything she went through. I didn’t want to imagine the pain she had to endure watching her mate with someone else.
“Did you find her? Or you got lost on the way p>
“I’m sorry, Alpha.” I apologized again, my wolf rolling his eyes at that. “I was so focused on finding her, nothing else mattered p>
Aiden’s eyes remained on me as I spoke, scrutinizing my every word. I didn’t take
my eyes off him, trying to play whatever suspicions he was feeling.
“Do you think you can lie to me?” He asked, raising his brows slightly.
“He doesn’t know, does he?” I asked my wolf but he just shrugged. There’s no way he can guess that. Besides, everyone in the Pack knew you hated Kaia…another thing was guilty about. So, that’s the last thing they’re going to suspect even if they think you’re lying.
Aiden took slow steps towards me, stopping when there was no longer space. “You want me to believe that?” He asked, snorting. “You were gone without a word and you came back spewing that rubbish. What do you take me for p>
“I’m sorry p>
But he wasn’t listening, his wolf pushing himself to the surface and I knew what was coming.
“Beta,” Jager called. “Where were..” he started, and I swear I could no longer feel my heartbeat. Kieran was definitely having my neck. The door opening and Aiden’s head turning to glare at whoever it was gave me time to catch my breath.
“Alpha, I have everything-” Derek, the Gamma of the Pack started, before his eyes landed on me. “Dude! I heard you found your mate, congratulations.” He
said to me, not noticing the death glares Aiden was sending his way.
I was so happy Sean couldn’t keep his mouth shut because Aiden’s glare softened when he heard that.
“Why didn’t you come with her though?” He asked.
I swallowed hard, my eyes darting to Aiden while thinking of something. “Uhmm p>
she didn’t want to leave her Pack. So for now, I only get to visit her.” I lied.
“That’s messed me.” Derek said, “no wonder you were gone for so long p>
Aiden rolled his eyes before going back to his desk, “this isn’t a place for your small talk.” He said, “and we’re not done here.” He told me.
That was so close!
He moved to whatever it was they were discussing at the moment, going through the file in front of him and Derek giving a rundown of everything even though I couldn’t make sense of anything.
“Get ready,” Aiden’s voice directed at me snapped me back to the present. “You’re going with me to the Alphas’ meeting p>
“I’m not an Alpha.” I pointed out.
“And you’re telling me because I’m suddenly not aware?” I shook my head and apologized just as he dismissed us.
If he was going for the meeting, he was going to see Kaia…I’m sure he’d change
his mind about wanting her when he sees who she was mated to.
I made my way to the house instead of my room in the Pack house, and my plans to throw myself under covers was aborted when the moment I opened the door, I found my mom sitting on the couch in the living room, her arms crossed in front of her.
“Hi mom p>
She nodded, “So, how is she?” She asked, and my brows furrowed in confusion, wondering what she was talking about.
“Oh…my mate was p>
“You didn’t find your mate.” She deadpanned and I paused, like a deer caught in
the headlight.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, chuckling humorlessly
“Kaia.” My head jerked upward to meet her gaze. “She’s happy now, isn’t she? Is
she well? How’s her pup p>
My eyes darkened, covering the shock I felt. “How the fuck do you know that? Leave Kaia alone, she didn’t do anything to you p>
I probably didn’t see it well, but a sad smile appeared in her eyes. “Just tell her to
be careful, harm is coming to her and her pups p>
My heartbeat accelerated, “what the fuck are you talking about?” I asked, but
instead of replying, she stood up, leaving me confused.
I needed to talk to Kieran and fast.
