Chapter 53

Kaia’s POV

Lylah was giving the silent treatment I deserved. After leaving the hospital, I made sure my block was up and also hid my smell so that it wouldn’t be possible for anyone to trace.

I had no idea where I was going but I knew I had to avoid the patrol warriors and they were a lot, especially with their new routine. And to keep myself going despite how many times my body wanted to turn around and run into his arms was that he was better off without me by his side.

Laura was right, unlike her who had an advantage and could provide help when needed, I didn’t have anything. Since I left my former pack, I’m certain no one looked for me. They probably threw a party when they realized I was gone.

“Fuck!” I cried out, when I felt something pierce my leg.

It was dark and I could barely see anything. My only source of light was the moon, but because of my grudge against her, it wasn’t a full moon.

And since Lylah refused to surface, using my wolf’s vision wasn’t an option when she was nowhere to be found.

I didn’t know how I had walked, but I decided to call it a night.

“Come on, Lylah. I’m sorry.” I apologized, but there was nothing.

I found a big tree which was going to serve as my bed for the night and hopefully

it was well covered. I rested my back against the tree, using the bag I had with me as a pillow, I tried to make myself as comfortable as the tree would allow.

My stomach was rumbling and in all my packing, I didn’t bring along anything edible, not even a bottle of water. Dylan was right, my survival skill was zero.

A small smile crossed my face when I thought about it. But I was in a hurry to leave so those were the last things I thought about.

Everywhere was quiet except for the rustling of leaves and sounds made by other animals. I knew I was still inside the pack, so my worry about rogues reduced. But it didn’t make me any less afraid of being alone.

It reminded me of how alone I used to be only that I chose this one myself.

“Was Kieran looking for me? Or was he already going ahead to make Laura his Luna?” I wondered.

Pushing the thought aside because the more I thought about it, the more heartbroken it made me.

“Lylah!” I tried again and this time she responded but her voice came back weakly.

“Kaia p>

I frowned, “what’s wrong p>

She shook her head, “I don’t know, but something is wrong.” She replied.

I sat upright, at a loss of what to do. I’ve never regretted a decision so fast. I

should’ve listened to her when she asked me to think it through. Now that something is wrong, there was no one to ask for help.

“I’m sorry, this is my fault, I should’ve listened to you.” I cried. “What do we do?” I asked her.

“I just need to rest. It’ll probably be better in the morning p>

I nodded, “nothing must happen to her.” I thought, even if I have to return to Kieran, he’d know what to do. A question I was avoiding was if he’d still want me after this.

Several times, he’d assured me that he didn’t want anyone else, but I ended up doubting his every word the second something happens that isn’t pleasant.

Sleep eluded me like a plague and I was bored. Lylah had retreated to the far end of my mind, leaving me with no one to talk to except the creature making weird sounds but even then went to sleep after a while.

“Traitors p>

I missed his laughter that would fill the room instead of this silence. I missed tthe warmth I felt when I lay his arms to sleep, the bed at home… home, being with Kieran was home and I was giving it up willing for trees and insects.

I really am stupid.

I didn’t know when I drifted off to sleep in the most uncomfortable way. My entire body felt numb. I could barely move without falling back in my ass. But after a while it became better.

“Lylah, do you feel better?” I asked my wolf, ignoring the tugging in my chest.

“I don’t think so.” Came her weak response. “Let’s find something to stay for now.

I already can’t help you but it’d be worse to go on without my senses p>

A groan escaped my lips, my eyes looking around. I wasn’t sure how far I was from the pack or if they were looking for me.

But not wanting to risk losing Lylah, I found an abandoned cabin. Half of it was gone but there was a couch I could at least rest my back on…it was old, dusty and gone beyond repair. But it was also all I had.

The days that followed were pure torture, I fed on whatever wild fruits I could find and there was a stream nearby that served as the source of water-both drinking and bathing.

I kept myself busy by trying to make the cabin a little bit presentable but that wasn’t working out too well.

Lylah was getting better which made me relieved.

“Let’s go for a stroll.” Lylah suddenly suggested.

I frowned, “we’re not on a vacation p>

“Then, let’s go back to our mate. He’s going to be so worried.” An image of

Kieran’s face flashed in my mind, I have missed him so much.

“Let’s take a walk then.” She rolled her eyes at my poor attempt to change the topic.

As I strolled through the forest, the rustle of leaves and chirping of birds filled my ears…a sound that I’d gotten used to. But as I went, I felt a growing sense of unease and it became stronger and I felt a sharp pain at my side and my leg.

“Mate!” Lylah growled, “mate is hurt p>

Panic began to set in, “where’s he?” I asked.

Instead of replying, another pain shoots through my body, this was mine. I let out

a piercing scream as the bones in my body felt like they were breaking.

“What’s happening, Lylah? Am I dying?” I asked her. “I don’t want to die!” I cried. She didn’t respond. My limbs extended and formed paws.

“Oh my goddess!” I thought, when I realized what was happening.

Soon, I was standing on fours. My paws paddling softly in the ground. I didn’t

have time to marvel over my new form as Kieran’s cry for help filled my ears once more and I knew I had to find him.
