Chapter 109

Allie’s POV

I haven’t spoken to Dylan since he told me he was leaving. Like why would he leave when I was getting used to him being here…even Rhea was getting used to his presence. He knew how to keep me entertained, laughing without a care in the world. Yes, a part of me missed Ryder, but with Dylan, I didn’t have to think too much about it because he always found a way to take my mind off it and now, he was leaving just like that.

“We knew this was going to happen.” Rhea reminded me.

Of course I knew that, but it happened all of a sudden. He was a Beta and he obviously had to return to his pack as long as he was still a part of them.

Laying on my bed, I thought about how it was going to be once he leaves, if Ryder and I would ever go back to the way we used to be, considering how I haven’t spoken to him yet.

I think that I was worried that if I gave him a chance to explain why he acted the way he did, I would end up forgiving him easily and then it’d happen again p>

The door creaked open, revealing Dylan, who looked like he still needed to sleep. I turned to the other side, backing him.

“Come on, princess.” He called, “you have to let me apologize.” He said.

He came over to me, his hands holding me in place before I could turn away again.”I’m sorry. I thought it was the best thing I could do before I leave.” He said.

“You were going to hand me over to him…just like that!” I was raising my voice now, the more I thought about it, the angrier I became.

During one of the times that Ryder came to apologize, he mistakenly let it slip that he had spoken to Dylan and knowing both of them couldn’t stand each other, I confronted Dylan, asking what their conversation was about and he had no choice but to explain everything.

That hurt me even more than the fact that he was leaving. He tried apologizing then but I was too mad to listen to him. I am calmer now though.

“I didn’t want you to be alone after I leave,” he started, his hand lifting my chin to meet his gaze. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have decided for you p>

His eyes dropped as he apologized, his voice heavy with guilt. I felt my chest tightened at how small his voice was.

This was exactly why I was avoiding Ryder. Even though in this case, I know he was doing it for my sake…and it looked like it was hurting him just as much.

“Please forgive me.” He begged, pouting his lips and I let out a groan before my lips came crashing on his, kissing him. He didn’t respond immediately but I wasn’t worried about getting rejected and soon enough, he was kissing me back, his hand cupping my face.

The kiss, unlike our other ones, was slow…heated but there was no rush. It felt like we were pouring all our emotions and saying goodbye to each other even without any words.

I gently pulled away to meet his gaze. “Thank you.” I told him, and a confused look appeared on his face. But I just shrugged.

Going along with my dumb plan alone and not laughing at me for being pathetic was even enough. Then even when there was no need to pretend, he still stayed by my side.

“When are you leaving?” I asked him after a while.

He looked away, “I was going to leave today…I couldn’t bear to see your face and being the reason behind your tears.” He told me truthfully. “But at the same time, I wanted to see you p>

“I would’ve hunted you down.” I told him and although playfully, I could picture myself doing so. “I have a few words to say to your Alpha.” I added.

He chuckled, “would these few words include using your fist p>

I shot him a sheepish grin, “you know me too well.” I said and he started laughing.

The warm sound easing the rest of whatever tension I felt.

We laid in each other’s arms in silence, no words needed to be said. He was leaving the next day and no doubt I was going to miss him.

The next morning, I woke up annoyed. Dylan was no longer beside me, he must’ve gone back to his room while I was still asleep and without brushing or washing my face, I pushed myself up from the bed, ready to go to his room but the moment I swung the door open, Ryder was standing there with his hand raised.

“I’m not in the mood to deal with you,” I told him, passing beside him.

“I know.” He replied, following me as I went.

I ignored him, but as usual, that didn’t stop him. “Let’s just give him a chance to

explain.” Rhea said, “What’s the worst thing that can happen p>

I scoffed, “get our heart broken again?” It was more of a question than a statement.

“But we will never know if we don’t

listen to him. She argued and I frowned. Maybe it was better we didn’t find out. Besides, what is the use if his explanation wouldn’t bring a change to how our relationship used to be?

I could remember having the conversation about just making it official since I no longer want to find my mate but his response told me exactly what I needed to hear…move on.

“He could’ve changed his mind. That was a long time ago p>

A frown made its way to my face. “Are you taking his side?” I asked her.

She shook her head, “I just don’t want us to miss out on having something permanent.” She replied. “I know how much you long to have something like Dani and Kaia p>

I sighed, “If this goes horribly, it’s your fault.” I said and she agreed.

Letting out a deep breath, I turned to face him, my sudden movement causing him

to run into me…literally. His rich smell filled my nostrils.

“Sorry, princess.” He murmured.

“You can’t keep following me around.” I started, “what do you want?” I asked, struggling to keep my voice calm.

“Just a chance to explain.” He replied.

“What if after the explanation, I still want you to stop following me?” The hopeful look in his eyes disappeared at once.

“I’ll stop…I promise p>

I nodded, “let’s talk later then.” I finished and a wide smile covered his face and for a moment, I forgot what his smile looked like and the effect it had on me.

Taking my eyes off him, I murmured that I needed to leave so I could meet Dylan before he stubbornly ran away.

True to my words, Dylan was already done packing. They were mostly things that he got while he was here so no surprise that he was done.

“You have to be the most stubborn person I know.” I told him and his smile got bigger. “It’s not a compliment.” I quickly added but the smile remained on his face and I snorted.

Seeing his things gathered made the fact that he was leaving real.

The girls, who I mind-linked when we were in the room, were waiting for us by car, an unreadable expression on their faces.

“Make sure you come visit again and always be with your phone.” I commanded.

“If Aiden gives you shit, give him the middle finger and come back here.” Kaia said. Her pregnancy was definitely bringing out a new side of her.

Dylan nodded, then took turns to hug all of us with me being the last.

“Don’t forget what we spoke about.” He whispered against my neck. “f he misbehaves, let me know, I’ll be here as soon as possible.” He promised and I nodded, holding him tightly.

He finally left and the tears I was fighting back came pouring out. The girls did their best trying to comfort and Ryder, who was watching from a distance, was beside me in an instant.

“I’m okay guys.” I assured them, wiping away my tears.

“Do you want to take a walk?” Kaia asked and I shook my head.

“I just want to be alone for now.” I said, shooting them an apologetic smile but

they assured me that it was okay.

I needed to clear my head, the talk with Ryder can happen later.
