Chapter 68
Chapter 70
Kieran’s POV
“How the fuck did they get inside the pack and no one knew?” I demanded, my voice rising in anger. “There are patrol warriors at the borders, how did they get past them p>
Frustration evident on my features. As the strongest pack ever known, I took pride in the safety of my members no matter what, but now, right under my nose, they were hurt.
“I don’t think they passed through the borders, Alpha.” Ryder said.
He was just as frustrated as I was. Dani had gotten hurt, it could be anyone next time. And they had the nerve to even send a message.
“You think they were already inside p>
“That’s the only reasonable explanation for this. I’ve had the warriors on double shifts since we caught uhmm…Luna’s brother p>
My head snapped to him, “Step brother p>
“Sorry Alpha p>
I let out a groan as I was going away from the main topic. If they were already inside, it raises a lot of questions. “Were they also members of my pack or have they been in the pack just waiting for the right time p>
The door creaked open, and Caleb strolled in. His eyes were sunken, which made me doubt he got any sleep last night. I’d actually be surprised if he did.
“You shouldn’t be here p>
“I wish. She’s with the Luna, and I’m not supposed to be back except I catch the assholes that took her p>
I nodded, that’s exactly like her.
“Back to what happened, the message they left means we’re already onto them I started.
“The AXE.” Caleb finished. “The fact that it’s Dani his fist clenched, “they know
I’m digging into them and close to finding something.” He finished.
I stood up and started pacing. “Was Kaia with Dani when she was taken?” I asked.
After healing Dani, most of her energy was drained and she needed time to recuperate, so I couldn’t get anything out of her. Even though it wasn’t as bad as the first time when she healed me. It could be because of how severe mine has been but I didn’t want to take any risks.
They paused, “they’re always together and Luna found her before we did.” Caleb replied, but even as he said it, something wasn’t adding up…we could all tell.
“Bella,” I called through our mindlink. If we wanted any real answer, I needed her here.
I heard a ruffling sound before she finally responded. She hummed, “Do you miss me already? The feeling is mutual, baby.” She said, and for a minute, the main reason I was mind-linking her skipped my mind as a smile spread across my face.
“Snap out of it, Kieran.” I thought.
“Can you come to my office for a moment?” She agreed and not long after, the door opened and she entered, Dani and Allie behind her.
“Is this about yesterday?” Dani asked, going to stay beside Caleb, who moved so she could be comfortable.
She didn’t look like someone who’d gone through something terrible just the previous day which was good.
“Tell me what happened yesterday…in detail p>
Dani nodded and Caleb was staring at her, concern etched on his face. But she assured him that she was okay.
“While I was in the hospital, I got Caleb’s note to meet him she started, and Caleb’s frown deepened. “What note?” He asked, his brows furrowing slightly.
“You asked me to meet you, so when I p>
“What are you talking about? Why would I send a note when I can easily mindlink you p>
She paused, confusion setting in. “It was you who sent the note,” she argued. “You asked me to meet you because it was a surprise p>
Caleb wanted to interrupt her again, but I mind-linked him to let her finish.
“While I was going, that’s when someone came behind me and put a cloth over my nose. That’s all I remember until I woke up in the hospital p>
“Where’s the note now?” I asked her.
She shook her head, “I don’t know. I was holding it when I was coming to meet you, so it must have fallen down p>
“Can you remember who gave it to you then p>
She shook her head, “The hospital was swamped up, so my attention was on the warriors who’d come in to get treated. I didn’t pay attention to anything else…I would’ve suspected it but it had his scent, so naturally I thought it was him p>
“That means they have people working with them, and somehow, they were at the hospital. They’re closer than we thought.” Ryder said.
This just moves the whole case to a new level. Being able to replicate Caleb’s smell could only be done by witches. But during my parents’ time, they banished all witches and wizards from the pack after an incident that led to the death of many pack members. So why were they showing up now?
“And there was no smell other than Dani’s own when I found her, which means they were careful not to leave any trace behind.” Kaia said.
Our heads jerked to her, and she frowned. “What p>
“How did you find me?” Dani asked.
“I followed your scent, and Lylah is back so it was easier.” She replied.
“I told you I was going to meet Caleb, so how did you know to look for me? I mean, I’m glad you did but something is just not adding up p>
“About that she started, pushing herself out of my arms and it was my turn to frown. That didn’t last long when I heard her next words. “I kind of felt it. I don’t know how, but I could feel what you were feeling at the time and at first, I thought it was Kieran, but Lylah called your name.” She finished.
“That’s part of the abilities mentioned in the books we found.” Allie, who got over the shock first, said.
My heart swelled with pride as I stared at herand if it was a different situation, I would be telling her exactly that.
“What about mind-linking then?” Dani asked.
“I think that will happen after the official ceremony.” Ryder said.
But with everything going on, I haven’t even thought about having one. I knew she was ready…I doubt she knew that herself, but it was quite obvious and I couldn’t wait for that day where she would stand beside me as Luna.
“Not to be that person, Alpha.” Caleb started, bringing our attention back to what was on ground. “We would need to talk to Dylan p>
The room went silent after he said that, their eyes meeting mine. Especially Kaia, who had completely avoided talking about him even though she wanted to.
“He’s right,” King said, “he also didn’t have a smell when he first came. He must know a witch p>
“That’ll hasten the process of getting to the end of this.” Ryder agreed.
“You do that, take him to an empty room and have the pack doctor see him. Have warriors at his door at all times.” I ordered.
I didn’t miss the pleased smile that crossed Kaia’s features even though she tried covering it up with a cough, she wasn’t deceiving anyone.
“Yes, Alpha.” He said standing up. Ryder followed him closely behind.
“I’ll see you later, I’m going with the girls to…uhm…the child care.” Kaia said.
King snickered, “what does she take us for p>
“Be careful.” I told her instead and she nodded, kissing me before running out of
the office after the girls. My eyes stared at the door even after she was long gone.
I just hope it was the right decision.
