Chapter 66

Kieran’s POV

My meeting with the Alpha’s ended, it was the same results. Nobody had heard about that kind of substance before, but I made sure they would keep their eyes open and inform me if they heard anything. Then I went down to the dungeon to see if the prisoner had changed his mind about keeping quiet…he hadn’t.

Next, I went to have a meeting with the warriors but that didn’t end well when different emotions, belonging to Kaia hit me at once.

“Are you okay?” I asked her through our mindlink, “your emotions are all over the place p>

But instead of a response, I felt a wall rising. She’d blocked me.

I frowned, “what was going on p>

The warriors could tell that something was wrong, but nobody asked me as I hurriedly left the meeting to go in search of her.

I ran into Caleb, “Alpha? You’re already here?” He asked me, his brows furrowing. He was supposed to be dealing with the other groups -The AXE

Running a hand through my hair, I nodded. “Something is wrong with Kaia.” I replied.

He frowned, “she asked about you not quite long ago and I told her that you were he trailed off, his eyes darting between me and the direction he was coming from.

“I was I asked, prompting him to continue his statement, an annoyed look working its way to my face.

Several thoughts of her being in danger crossed my mind even though nothing… apart from her unstable emotions indicated that she was hurt. And Caleb knew better than to even tell her that in the first place.

What I didn’t expect to see was her arms around my prisoner while asking for a doctor. King was growling at me to let him out and I knew that if I did, that prisoner wouldn’t be the only one losing his life today.

“Listen to me, Kaia.” I started, struggling to keep myself from raising my voice at her but with all the words coming from her mouth, it was only a matter of time before King took over. “I am not going to have my doctor check out a prisoner. We’ll talk about this later p>

She shook her head, “Then I will treat him myself p>

My head snapped to her, a growl escaping my lips “You will do no such thing!” I told her.

“He’s dangerous and p>

“He’s my brother,” Kaia’s voice rang out and I froze, allowing the information to sink in.

“Brother?” It couldn’t be. The last time she mentioned having a brother…step brother, he was among the people who took it upon themselves to make her life a living hell. So what I was trying to understand was why she was acting like this.

“He might be your brother,” I started, after getting over my initial shock. “But right now, he’s my prisoner and I say what happens to him p>

A disappointed look crossed her features, but she couldn’t be any more disappointed than I was.

“Lock him up.” I ordered, and this time, she didn’t say anything which was good because I was so close to losing my mind.

Taking her hands, I led her away from the dungeon and back into the pack house.

I didn’t want to think about the fact she’d raised her voice at me, and repeatedly gone against my order.

Caleb mind-linked me, asking what he should do about the warriors who opened the door to the cell for her. But I would come back to them when I was done.

I opened the door to the room and shut it once we were inside. Kaia still hasn’t spoken a word to me…she didn’t even look at me.

It hurts me that she would take his side over mine. I was her mate not him and the last thing I wanted was to put her in a situation that’ll harm her.

“What were you thinking?” I asked her. And although I looked calm, my voice sounded otherwise.

Her eyes widened in surprise, but she still didn’t say anything which was good because I was so close to losing my mind. Her hand crossed in front of her.

“You put yourself in danger knowingly. He could’ve hurt you and others if he had managed to escape p>

“He was hurt.” She snapped, “and he’s not that type of person p>

I scoffed, “You don’t know that, I’ve spent weeks trying to catch him but somehow

he manages to disappear into thin air and you think you know what type of person he is?” I asked.

Why were we even having this conversation in the first place?

“You’re wrong, Dylan wouldn’t hurt me. If he wanted to, he would have done so before you came p>

I felt my chest ache at the thought of her being hurt. “Like you said,” I started again. “he wasn’t in the best state p>

She looked away and I let out a frustrated sigh, “Just listen to me on this, okay?” “You think I would put myself in danger?” She started, and I raised my brows at her as if to remind her of the few times she’d done exactly that.

“Maybe I have before…but not now. I know you’re worried about me, but I didn’t feel like I was in danger p>

“Kaia p>

“Why would he hurt me after putting his life on the line to save me? I’m not sure what he did but he definitely wouldn’t hurt me p>

“Are you listening to yourself?” I asked, taking a step closer to her.

“I am, you’re the one who isn’t listening to me.” She snapped, glaring at me. “He’s my brother, and I’m not going to sit back while he’s hurt.” Determination flashed through her eyes.

Maybe because she’d never spoken to me like this, I was trying to wrap my head around why she was being like this. I wasn’t even sure how to handle this side of her.

A growl escaped my lips, “We’re done talking about this. And Kaia, the fact that he

didn’t hurt you before doesn’t mean he’s innocent.” I told her.

Deep down, I was fighting the urge to go back to the dungeon and rip him to pieces. Going to my closet, I picked out another pair of clothes.

“Where are you going?” Kaia asked, her eyes following me as I went towards the door

“A run p>

I opened the door just as I heard her call my name but I don’t think I could handle any more right now.

“You can have dinner without me.” And I was gone, slamming the door behind me.
