Chapter 34
Kaia’s POV
“Oh no, oh no!” I murmured as a look of horror crept over my face. I started pacing around in the room, sweats dripping down my forehead.
“Bella, my parents are going to love you.” Kieran assured me, taking slow steps to where I stood, his hands at each of my side, holding me in place.
His eyes held my gaze with so much intensity. “You don’t know that, what if they decide that I’m not good enough for you p>
“You’re perfect for me, and they’ll see that too when they meet you p>
I nodded, leaning into his touch when he caressed my face. I don’t think I would ever get used to the shiver I feel when he touches me. And now, a part of me believes that as long as he was with me, I could do anything.
He dropped the news about his parents coming to visit after we finished dinner. They had been away for a while, enjoying their time away from being the leaders of the pack. And they were going to come here before finally returning to their house.
“Come to bed already, I missed you all day.” He said, and just like that, thoughts of his parents were forgotten as I let him lead me to bed.
Kieran’s voice dropped to a sultry whisper, “You’re wearing too much clothing p>
I smiled, feeling a shiver run down my spine. “So are you,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
His eyes locked onto mine, his gaze burning with desire. “I think we can fix that,” he whispered, his voice husky and seductive.
As Kieran’s fingers grazed my skin, I felt my eyelids growing heavy. We sank onto the bed together, our bodies entwined.
The next thing I knew, I was waking up to the warmth of Kieran’s chest, his arms wrapped tightly around me. I smiled, feeling a sense of peace wash over me.
He didn’t move when I kissed his forehead and I moved slightly but he held me closer with his eyes still closed.
“Let’s just stay here,” Lylah’s voice rang out, “forever.” She purrs.
I rolled my eyes and tried to move again. This time, his arms loosen and I stood up. I needed to shower and my hair also needed washing…that alone would take time.
Kieran was awake by the time I was done in the bathroom. He had a frown on his face, making my brow furrowed in confusion.
“Why didn’t you wake me up p>
I smiled, I loved how touchy he gets with me. “Thought you should rest more. It won’t happen again.” I assured him and he nodded.
Both of us left the room at the same time when Caleb mind-linked Kieran regarding their investigation. He didn’t tell me much about it, not that it bothered me anyway.
I said goodbye to Kieran once we got to his office.
Scott was still doing his work following me around. I’ve grown used to his presence but I couldn’t say the same thing for Dani and Allie, who wouldn’t stop complaining that he was invading private conversations.
“My dad is easier to get along with…my mom can be a handful.” Allie said when I told them about my conversation with Kieran and I felt colour drain off my face.
Dani cleared her throat, glaring at Allie whose eyes widened when she realized what she did.
“What she’s saying in essence is that their mom will love you p>
Allie nodded, “of course she’ll love p>
I nodded, not convinced from the tone of her voice and it left me thinking about the type of person his mom was going to be. Was she going to take one look at me and hate me or would she welcome me with open arms.
“Even if she doesn’t like us, our mate won’t leave us. So quit thinking about it… you really don’t learn, do you?” Lylah said.
“You’re not helping matters.” I grumbled and she snorted.
“I don’t think anything I say would help. And I can’t tell you what goes on in her head.” She replied and I let out a deep sigh.
Dani and Allie looked at each other, then turned to me, most likely wondering what my reaction would be.
“Let’s talk about something else I started, “something like you and Ryder. I’ve seen the way he looks at you when he thinks no one is watching p>
Her cheeks turned a bright shade of red, “he doesn’t look at me in any way. You are thinking too much about what isn’t there.” She murmured.
“Your face says otherwise.” Dani sang, wiggling her eyebrow suggestively. “And don’t think I don’t see the way you undress him with your eyes. You have it really bad p>
I fought back a smile, there was definitely something there. Several times in Kieran’s office, I saw the way he looked at her and although I didn’t mention it because it was their business and she was happy.
And if they were trying to hide it, they were failing miserably at it. But I was happy for them nonetheless.
“We just agreed to stop ignoring each other and be cordial p>
I scoffed, cutting her off. “Cordial my foot.” I said and Dani burst into laughter.
“Is it that bad?” She asked.
“It’s not necessarily a bad thing. I don’t think it’s one sided like I originally thought it was p>
She paused, taking a deep breath. My eyes darted to Dani but she was focused on Allie who was deep in thoughts.
“He wants to wait for his mate…I mean I-I want to too, but I can’t she sighs, “I can’t help the way I feel about him.” her voice held so much uncertainty which was so unlike her as she was always so confident.
“I’m sure everything will work out just fine.” It wasn’t much help, but I couldn’t exactly tell her that he’d reject his mate for her. Hence the reason I still have an issue with the moon goddess.
Our conversation steered away from Ryder and mates in general. We even left caring for the children to the other pack members who also assisted in taking care
of them, and simply relished talking to each other until we were tired. Instead of waiting until my usual time to leave, I decided to surprise Kieran. I already missed him all day.
Skipping all the way to his office, I was there in no time but a voice from within stopped me just as I raised my hands to open the door.
My hand froze in the air, my heart sinking faster than a crashed ship. “Was that
his mom? But she isn’t supposed to be here for another two days.” I thought.
“I don’t care about her rank, she’s my choice and you’re going to respect that.” Kieran’s voice thundered, sending chills down my spine as my feet remained rooted to that spot.
Scott tried to persuade me to leave, but I refused. First, it was with Ida, now it was his mom. Some things never change.
The door creaked open after a while and I was met with an angry Kieran, whose expression softened to concern when he saw me before they turned into guilt. “Kaia he called softly, but I was already running in the opposite direction.
