Chapter 46
Ryder’s POV
(When he finds his mate)
Kaid was going crazy in my head ever since we left Allie’s room a few hours ago. He didn’t say anything so I assumed it was because he didn’t want to leave Allie’s side.
I was done with the early morning patrol and was making my way to Kieran’s office to give him a report. But with each step I took, a weird but delicious smell hit my nose. And Kaid was going even crazier…because that’s the only way to explain his next word.
“Mate…I can feel mate.” He said, and the entire world paused.
“That’s not possible.” I argued, but Kaid growled in response. “Find mate.” He repeated, with a sense of urgency that I couldn’t ignore.
“What’ll happen to Allie?” Was the first question that came to my mind.
“Find mate!” Kaid growled again and I pushed the thought of Allie to the back of my mind and began following the smell.
I came to a stop when I reached Kieran’s office where Caleb was standing in front
of the door and the smell had disappeared…like there was no trace of it at all. A frown appeared on my face.
“Where did she go?” I thought, “or was my wolf mistaken p>
“Why do you look lost?” Caleb asked, his brows furrowing at my features.
“Long story. Why are you standing out here?” I asked him instead.
He shrugged, “Luna Clarissa, is inside.” He started, referring to Kieran’s mom. “And she brought a chosen mate with her p>
My head jerked to him, “what the fuck are you talking about?” My voice sounded low and confused.
I mean, we all knew that she didn’t like Kaia, but we weren’t worried because Kieran wasn’t going to let his mom come between them. But going ahead to bring a mate for him was just out of it.
“I’ve told you mom, I’m not going to mate with someone who isn’t Kaia. So you can stop wasting your time.” Kieran’s voice rang out from his office and I looked at Caleb whose expression remained the same.
“How long has this been going on p>
“Long enough for me to want to drag both of them out.” He replied, “I’m only here just in case Luna comes back.” He added, answering my unasked question.
It wasn’t going to end well if she did show up. I still remember Kieran saying something about her not being over the fact that his mom didn’t like her. This would surely break her.
I joined him in waiting and barely ten minutes later, Kaia showed up, a worried look on her face.
“What’s going on Ryder?” She asked me when she got close enough.
I raised his hand to scratch the back of his head, “he’s kinda busy at the moment p>
I told her.
“I want to see him.” She repeated.
My eyes darted towards Caleb, begging him to say something. “Now’s not really a good time.” He said.
A hint of frustration flashed through her face, “Let me in!” She growled, her wolf forcing herself to the surface, catching me by surprise.
Her wolf’s presence released an aura that made it difficult to refuse her command. She didn’t need to say anything else as we moved out of the way.
“You felt that too, didn’t you?” I asked, after regaining my balance.
“I felt it all right Caleb murmured.
We didn’t have enough time to dwell on the fact that Kaia just used her Luna tone on us for the first time, before the door swung open and an angry Luna Clarissa stomped out and a girl who I assumed was the chosen mate.
My eyes lingered on the girl, taking in her delicate features. Something felt off, but I couldn’t place it. She felt familiar, but at the same time, she felt different. Her eyes held my gaze for a moment before she followed the Luna.
“Uhmm…sorry…I-I” I stammered, my mind trying to put two and two together. “Excuse me for a minute.” I said instead, going in the same direction she went.
I finally caught up with her, being finally able to smell her again.
“Mate! mate! mate!” Kaid chanted.
My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. “You’re…you’re my mate!” I told her, fighting the urge to reach out to her and hold
her.
I couldn’t believe it was finally happening, the one person I’ve spent my entire life waiting for was standing in front of me and she was beautiful.
A smile crossed my lips, as I took in her features, her brown eyes pulling me with an invisible thread.
But instead of the response I was expecting, her eyes narrowed slightly, an unimpressed look crossed her features, “And so?” She asked, her expression showing indifference to the information.
My shoulder slumped, a sigh escaping my lips. My heart felt like it was being ripped out of my chest. My wolf whined loudly.
“What do you mean? You’re my I started, my breaking at the end.
“I had you the first time,” she snapped, glaring at me. “I don’t know what you expect to happen but it’s not going to happen p>
Sweat broke out on my forehead, my heart racing, it felt like I’d received a punch to my guts. Grabbing her hand and not focusing on the shivers that shot up my vein, I pulled her outside, ignoring the looks a few of the pack members sent our way.
“In case you haven’t noticed,” she started, “I’m going to be mated to Alpha Kieran p>
Everything stopped moving, her words sinking in.
“Mine!” I growled, my eyes darkened. Kaid struggled to come to the surface but I pushed him back. “You’re mine p>
Her eyes softened but it was gone as soon as it came. “I don’t belong to you.” She snapped.
“No p>
“I’m going to be the Luna of this pack, I can’t be tied down by she gave me a once over look, “anything less p>
Each of her words felt like an arrow being shot, but she didn’t even blink.
I didn’t know which one was more painful, the fact that she wanted to be with
Kieran for his position, or that she didn’t feel anything.
“Let’s make this easy on ourselves,” she said, “what’s your name?” She asked.
“What p>
“Your name?” She repeated.
“R-Ryder.” I replied, a little bit unsure.
“That wasn’t so hard, was it?” A small smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.
Even though it wasn’t a full smile, it took my breath away.
Her next words jerked me back to the present, cutting whatever was left of the thread I was holding onto.
“I, Laura, of the Silverwood pack, reject Ryder of the before she could complete her statement, I moved closer to her and before I knew what I was doing, my lips came crashing on hers.
